First Friedman Jose vid.

I’m not hearing anything special. I was really expecting a lot more. 😳

Why? It's a Jose mod. It's not like Dave studied quantum physics and discovered a new way to clip a waveform with diodes that hasn't already been done in the last 40 years.

I agree with the others. It sounds fine. It doesn't sound any better or worse than other amps with diode clipping. But it does have an interesting feature set, so at least there's that.

Considering how much I normally don’t care for tones he gets out of pretty much anything, the Jose sounding not bad here makes me think it could sound great elsewhere.

The big mystery still hasn’t really been answered yet though, which is how close it can get to a bone stock plexi.

This will be the deciding factor if I ever pick one of these up.

That video posted here was super disappointing, but have a feeling it can do better.

So why not just get a 1959SLP? I have two and they just slay everything in their paths. I keep buying Friedmans, selling them and then looking at the next model - Plex and now Jose. But those 100w Plexis get THE tone every time. They're' big, heavy and loud, and I much prefer the more portable smallbox heads. But then they always make me want to go back to my Marshalls. First world problems here.

I don’t know. This doesn’t really do much for me. There’s not much aggression and sounds filtered to me. I can hear potential, but this clip sure wouldn’t convince me to buy one.

My old Ceriatone Yeti had a lot more kerrang/aggression going on. And my Morris UK78’ with a Griffin Super Drive or Keeley Super Rodent out front would bury that. Guess I’m not a Friedman guy because I felt the same about the Smallbox I briefly owned.

I like Nielsen just fine. Amp sounded great at times and average at times. Would dig to try it in person. Can’t say I’d pay for it at that price but would enjoy checking it out.

So I guess the Yeti is still the best-sounding Jose-ish amp available out there without throwing your lot in with questionable individuals huh

I thought it sounded great .. I don't watch many you tube guitarist videos of gear generally thankfully by the sounds of it haha. I would still get a HeadFirst ALTA over this

YT videos are hard to go by. I'm selling my Dirty Shirley head because I bought it based on YT videos and it didn't sound like that to me at band practice. At home alone, sure, but it didn't work with the band.

I saw an A/B video today of a Friedman Plex and a Marshall 1959SLP and I couldn't hear a difference. So I guess I can save my money and not grab a Plex.

I think in this case it's more about figuring out what the amp is at its core. Like is this amp really a plexi with enough switchable mods piled on that you can morph it from plexi to modern-ish tight high gain and anywhere in between? Or is it kind of its own separate thing altogether?

Can I get pure plexi sounds out of it AND whatever else is in there, or is it always going to sound like some kind of modded Marshall?

Everyone get off my lawn, but I am getting to the point that I can't handle anything with more than six knobs. The old Marshalls just do it for me. If I need to bring an SD-1 and Hot Plate with me, those and the old Marshall are still a lot less than a boutique amp. I love the black panel Friedmans, though. I saw a black panel Runt 50 head last week and it was mighty tempting. But then I saw a BE 100 Deluxe at the local GC last week and there were just too many knobs on it. I'd never use half of them. With my SLO-30, I always have both volumes dimed, so I don't count those knobs.
