For me it's the Beach Boys, on my birthday I think it was '77. One of the great things, the very few...very few great things that my sister did for me.
Olympia stadium, Detroit, it's like a hockey rink type deal converted for shows.
and guess who was there...Brian fucking Wilson. Complete with his blue kimono and sitting behind the piano when he wasn't wandering around that is. Just noodling, not singing at all, which is a damn shame because that's what made the Beach Boys, his songs of course, but it's that voice that fucking voice.
Anyhows, the lights dim and the fucking sweet sounds of California Girld start to come on and the first thing that hits you is Dennis Wilson's bass and snare drum, right in the fucking chest - buh pow!
I was absolutely fucking hooked, music was my thing man after that.
Detroit is renowned for having the greatest audiences in the world always has been, that's the reputation, they don't call it Detroit fucking Rock City for nothing.
I've never seen or heard or experienced so much audience participation with the clapping and the singing and the good vibes than with the Beach Boys. You know, people were on their feet the whole show clapping and singing these songs. It wasn't my ears that hurt after that show was my hands. Ha.
It was fucking beautiful!
