I'm not very knowledgeable on it but I think that can happen from contamination in the wood. Like oil droplets that soaked in or something.

That ad says the location is very near Rochester, MN. Since I have time to kill waiting for a flight, I went the craiglist Rochester, MN to see if it was listed there and I don't see it.
But damn there are a lot of Les Pauls up there.
