Floyd Rose question?

Update:

thanks everyone, I found the problem, the A was jammed or pinched at the nut when I locked it down; unlocking the nut and retuning, everything is intonated and working as expected.

I'll see what happens when I lock the nut down again.

Not my first Floyd, but never had this issue before.

Update2: locked the nut, tuning is as expected.

Unlocking the nut, retuning and locking it again fixed whatever was wrong. no idea, don't care now that it's working! :dunno:

Thanks again!

Got the guitar tuned, Floyd Rose set-up flush/level with the body, tuned using an electronic tuner, in standard tuning (A = 440Hz).

The open A string is in tune according to the tuner; the 12th fret A and harmonic are in tune, but the A string is actually 1/2 step sharp relative to the E and D strings.

On the low E string fretted at the 6th fret is in tune with the open A string; on the D string fretted at the 8th fret is in tune with the open A string. Fretting the A string at the 4th fret is in tune with the open D string; fretting the A string at the 6th fret is in tune with the open E strings.

I've never seen this before. I'd expect the tuner to register A#, but it's saying A. All the other strings are in tune relative to each other, just not with the A string.

What should I be looking at or for? Where should I start? I'm completely baffled at this point. :bash:

Intonation ??? not sure if I'm reading your post right ...

This is your new Jackson V? I can't help on specific hardware or intonation issues but what tuner are you using exactly and do you have back up tuners to compare with? I am assuming it sounds sharp to you as well? I guess we can also assume that all of your other guitars do not have this problem with your tuner/ear? I ask these dumb questions because I sometimes get this issue on my B string (Tom bridge) and I just manually adjust the tuning on that string by ear regardless of what the tuner says. OR - use the 5th fret method. To me, and my ears, that is better anyway (assuming the surrounding strings are already in tune).

Simple, it's not in tune. When you attempt to tune your E and D strings to standard pitch the A will go flat. The string tension has to be balanced with the springs. Anytime you change pitch on a string it will impact the others.

these Jackson X series Rhoads are becoming my prog / fusion guitars of choice. For rock, I have my Ibanez PS.

I hear you. My tuner was lying to me, and I'm checking everything like wtf, how is this even possible. All the strings were in tune according to the tuner, including the A. Comparing the tuning between the strings, the A was half step sharp...how? I decided to start my set-up and tuning process over; unlocked the nut, tuned the guitar; made sure the floyd was level, and compared the tuning of all the strings to each other and the problem was gone. locked the nut, minor adjustments with the fine tuners, and good to go as it should be.

Glad to hear you got it up and running. Was having that issue using few phone tuner apps, but mainly ust the B. Def a wtf moment.
