Anyone catch this video what do you guys think about guitar center one way or the other I have my own love hate with GC, Sam Ash and Music Go round. But I was wondering if you guys agree with Fluff or if you think guitar center needs to go. Personally I wish there where more music stores or wish the main ones had better gear.

Guitar center needs to go big time. I can understand shopping at box stores like home depot or lowes vs Ace or smaller retailers because they do what they do well. Guitar center just sucks in every way possible.

Just seems like the inventory they carry can be had anywhere for cheaper. I'd rather spend my cheese with a local guitar shop where they have more oddball items and the same stuff GC sells.

I don't really have issues with guitar center as much as others probably. If i am in a pinch, i will buy strings/accessories there.

I don't agree on the 120w peavey comment. I say Buy the 120w 6505 for bedroom. Why not? cheaper used, and built better. That mini is China crap. You can always attenuate with the loop/torpedo/attenuator.

I agree with Fluff, in that GC causes the local stores to price things competively instead of price gouging. However, except for used things from their website, I have not been able to walk into a GC in the last few years and find anything that I am specifically looking for. Of course they can order it for you, but so can you...cheaper. We need GC to keep the game fair, but I might walk into one every 6 months, and always walk out empty handed.

I've personally experienced the $10 for a pack of Ernie Ball Slinkys bullshit. Back in the day I've paid that for strings. This is late 80's early 90's money! I'm all for supporting the local business, but I'm not paying that. I have no issue with Guitar Center personally. Is their gear not in the best shape? Sometimes but there's a 30 day no questions asked guarantee. Do they screw you on trade-ins? Of course! But it's a business and folks have alternatives for their private sales these days. So I don't get the irrational hate for Guitar Center at all.

I have used and really abused the return policy to try just about every amp under the sun lol. When it comes to "oddball" if you are looking for something specific you more then likely are not buying it from GC haha. But I don't think strings and simple things are very hard to buy offline but then you'd have to buy spares.

GC in cities like NYC, LA and Nashville is pretty great.

The one here in Nashville has a platinum room with just about every amp from Bogner, Friedman and various other boutique manufacturers. They also stock a ton of anderson, prs, gibson custom, fender custom and other guitars. The guy who runs it (tony) is really helpful and great to deal with.

We had approximately eight good mom and pop stores within twenty miles of me when Guitar Center opened it's doors in a big strip mall two miles from my house. One of those is left, and their Gibson line got yanked.

Had 2 mom and pop stores in my home town, one is still there. Both charged list price for gear. Before I knew any better I bought my mim strat for $435, this was in '93.

My biggest complaint with guitar center is that they no longer carry much of the high end gear. It makes sense from a business model, but kind of stinks. I for one do not wish guitar center will go under, to me when that happens, rock will officially be dead.

I have gotten many great deals on their used site. I have taken full advantage of their 30 day return policy to try new amps etc.......I have no problem with them at all & would especially miss their used site if they were to go out of business.

GC used site is great . I don't no what I would do if it went away. Nice to be able to drive up the street to return an amp, cab, guitar etc if it shows up not as described rather than chasing down some bust out douch bag.

Cab shipping $25 bucks . Come on how can you beat that. Prices are always great also and if you have a relationship with them they wheel and deal on prices. I hate local sales people always seem to think they have gold and want way to much for there gear . Then when you try to bring them down to earth with a fair price they get pissed .

GC here is pretty much a waste of time. They carry low end stuff, they don't know their product, the sales people have no idea about new gear and the standard line about how they can order it for me cracks me up. I can order it too, get free shipping and a better deal and have it set up by Sweetwater better than GC ever could. I don't bother unless I actually need strings or something right then.

For me, there's no need for GC anymore. I used to spend 1000s every year at Sam Ash & Guitar Center, I now spend zero for the last few years. I've had good experiences with even buying guitars online. No annoying sales pitch or haggling for a price that is still too high. The GCs near me carry next to nothing that attracts me. Going in there reminds me of the last days of Blockbuster when they would try to pitch every add on candy bar to help sales numbers, all the while smiling like their my best friend.

This all day and twice on Sunday. Most of my used gear purchases have been from them...and on the 29th day if I don't like it it goes back. Great deals to be had....some of these Craigslisters are ridiculous. I look on Craig's list, laugh, and peruse the used section at GC.

I just for the first time went by the one in Atlanta. The Platinum room was outstanding. The GC here in Memphis.....just not a fan. Not a single guitar is set up worth a shit. And the constant blaring of out of tune guitars playing in drop Q# thru amps that have no tone turned up to 11 ......just can't take it. Would much rather deal with mom and pop stores. or individuals.
