For folks looking for single coils that sound thick/quiet..

My love for the Virtual Vintage Dimarzio Heavy Blues is that is sounds GREAT with high gain and medium crunch. They also sound really nice clean.

I use Stratocasters 99% of the time and my tone is a big, ballsy, fat tone (Plexi/Stratocaster). I do not do the SRV thing with my Stratocasters and I rarely ever do pristine cleans. I always have a little hair on them. I set my JTM45 with a ballsy low gain crunch for most things and hit a high gain pedal (Keeley Baked TS-9) for leads and lines.

The best single coil (true) tone I had was with my old Telecaster. GREAT guitar, but I rarely used it.

I think the cobalt was designed by bill lawrence and I was going to mention the Lawrence 280L...a ceramic silent sc
not as chimey clean and pure as fralins/landaus/kinmans but excellent for big distortion sounds.
In fact probably the best sc bridge for hard rock I've played.

Had the hs-2 in the middle of a pearly gates and classic stack and that sounded good in that position

virtual vintage way too bright on my alder strat

the landaus are pretty middle of the road between the fralin vintage hots and the kinman silent avns

the stock singles in my 95 American limited strat sounded sparkly and great for SRV with the two rock opal but not yngwie hot.

Best singles I've ever heard were on a stock 62 strat. Ultimate chime and still super fat and smooth..I swear old magnets sound like they age like a fine wine. Smooth and satisfying.
next was a vintage 70s strat loaded with fralin woodstocks

that's all I've got

agree on the old magnets, however I'm pretty impressed with Fender Custom shop pickups that come with 50's/60's strats. They have great chime and quack!

fender custom pickups really do have some gems...not the lone star texas specials though, or the pearly gates plus...

no way stevie would ever use those!

but those 62's....anyone would run nekkid through a briar patch and dive into pool of rubbing alchohol for those.

IME, the HS3's are too dark, and too low output to balance well with any humbucker in the bridge.

The VV's are pretty damn stellar though. I've had great luck with the '54's and the 2.1's.

Funny, I can get my YJM's sounding great clean or with mild breakup. They also clean up as well as most other single coils. Back to the drawing board I guess LOL

That is great if you like the sound of them clean. However, for everyone else that likes the sound of real single coils and the tones produced from them they are a disappointment.

as are most any humbucking singles, IMO. Which is why I own different Strats for different sounds. IMO I can dial the amp around them

Again, good for you. I have some with true vintage singles in them too but like getting close to those classic tones with my main stack guitar. I have no idea why you keep posting youtube videos much less hendrix ones. THe HS-3 comes nowhere close to hendrix tones.
