I have a 5153 50 watt and I still love it but Id like some variety in my amp lineup, for those of you who love the head or have gone to something different what did you move to? I like the size, wattage and gain of the head but 50 or less for me these days...any recommendations appreciated...

Fractal and then Fryette. Grabbed a GP/DI and some pedals for recording purposes a few weeks ago. Worked out great.

Got a nice tight dry gain structure, completely different from the 5153. Can saturate it up and it becomes more familiar, can pair it with a Power Station for some live shit. Can run it into the power section of your 5153 for some coolness.

Can do great cleans up to straight up doom on the Deliverance setting, but you'll need to boost it for anything faster/thrashier.

1 watt, but it can drive a 2x12 in my experience, and some guys have done 4x12s with it.

I'm really enjoying it lately with a BE-OD on the Clean setting for some modded Marshall madness.

Check out some clips/vids. It's a fun little thing.

Back to my Mark V. Threw in the BE-OD pedal and I'm happy with my rig.

Never left the EVH's, been my main amps since 2007. I have the 50 and 100. Recently picked up a 20th Shiva. I really dig the different mids it puts out and the cleans are amazing. I also have an 83 2204 that I really like that satisfies my desire for that classic Marshall need.

I still have my 100 watt 5153, but it hasn't seen much play time since I picked up my Splawn Quick Rod. I just prefer the voicing of the Splawn.

I'm running an AMT P1 preamp into the return of a JVM 50w using an orange with V30/scumback H75. I like my tone a lot more than when i was running the 100w 5153

BUT

I've tried my set up with a fryette deliverance 60w head, boosted with maxon OD9 and I am really thinking I'll go that route.

It's a one channel, but I can get it modded to carry an fx loop and I'd have to use an A/B splitter using the A) dirty D60 channel and then B) would be going through the AMT P1 clean (which is great) into the return of the D60. But I yet have to draw the signal path on paper to see whether it can be done.

But the D60 is just

I have the EVH 50 watt head. I have had the 2 x 12 combo,100 watt head,100 watt stealth head. So I have owned almost all the EVH amp line. I would say I favor the 50 watt head over all the EVH amp line. It just sits right in the middle of what I need. I have a Marshall JCM 800 2210 that I switch out once in a while. I keep going back to the EVH stuff because it does have an overall great tone. I have some old school rack stuff I have also. I have been looking at Splawn amps as well. My band opened up for Gus G over the weekend and I would have to say his tone was awesome with a big wow factor. He has his own Black Star signature amp.

That leg lamp hahaha

I went from the 50w EVH to an Uberschall. The EVH on channel 3 needs no boost and grinds harder than the Uber even with pedals on it, but in the end I wanted a 100w head again, and feel like the Bogner is more articulate.

I liked my 5153 but I played a Mesa jp2c and had to have it. It was so close to a real c+ , I am very happy with it.

For me it's my Randall Thrasher 120. I sold my EVH 50 head after deciding of which to keep and the Thrasher is tighter and clearer. It can be tailored to sound pretty much exactly how I want it. Loved the EVH though. Would really like an LBX down the road. They make a Thrasher 50 would like to try one as well as my 120 weighs too GD much. The Friedman BE OD thru my 4lb Quilter is fun as well. Love that pedal!

I have a 50 watt head but between the BE100 I picked up and Mark IV I already had it doesn't see a lot of play time. If they had separated the green and blue channels it might get used more. The red channel is pretty much over kill for me.

100 watt 5153 was my main gigging amp from 2008 through 2014. Still have the amp and dig it, but now my main amp is a Splawn Quick Rod. I dig the voicing a little more and it has a little more punch to it.

Have the 2x12 combo and the 100s. Haven't moved on.

Went back to a rectifier. When I have more disposable income I'll probably snag another 50watt I absolutely loved it but can't stay away from the rectifier sound.

Why not try changing the tubes? For the past few years, I've been loving the green and blue channels of my 5150 III 50 watt. The red seemed a bit too over the top... I always wished for a voicing similar to the blue channel that I could set differently for leads.

I contacted the designer, Howard Kaplan, from Fender on what he suggets to tame the red channel. He told me that the red channel, in addition to having more gain, has a sustain character that the blue channel doesn't have. If I wanted to lower the gain, I should try at 12AU7 in V2 and V3... and I did just that. I got a set of JJ's and I tried the amp today.

Holy balls!!! What a world of difference!!!

The gain was diminished quite a bit. I used to have to set the gain around 11 or 12 noon to get a good bit of satchuration. Anything more wasn't really needed. Now, I have to set the gain to 3 or 4 o'clock, but even then, the voicing sounds similar to the blue channel. After messing with the EQ for a bit and driving it with a Bad Monkey to tighten up the lead tones, I found some killer killer tone.

I played and played and played. It sounded huge with a nice bit of teeth, but not buzzy at all.

So now, I have a 4 channel amp!!!!

- Channel 1: Clean
- Channel 2: Clean channel with a Bad Monkey for a bit of dirt
- Channel 3: Blue Channel for Hot Rodded Marshall tones - TC Spark to tighten it up when needed
- Channel 4: Liquid lead tone

I love this amp!!! It just keeps on giving!

Ditched my EVH 50 watt and 100 watt for an Engl FB100 and Engl Savage 120. Much happier (For the moment   )

I've got both myself. ;)

I still have my 5153 Stealth, but it's been in a road case for a few months. I'm more into my Marshalls at the moment. But I played an EBMM Axis through an EVH 50w and 2x12 cab yesterday and it really blew me away. When playing VH with my band, I prefer my modded Marshall Plexi. But it sounds different to me every day. So, when it sounds less than stellar, I grab the Stealth, which is more consistent.
