For you guys who left the 5153, where did you go??

I went back to Splawn but I would`t mind picking up a 5150 50 watt again , can`t beat the price and I actually find the red channel very usable with gain down around 9 o'clock

I owned the 50 watt for a few years. I own a smallbox now and i am using the be od for high gain. Probably would be happier if i owned a be 100 so i would not have to compromise on the clean ch with no bright switch when using the be od.

Early on I had a first gen 5153 that developed switching problems(common issue). Dumped it and got a Diezel Herbert. Far and away the best amp switch I had made to that point. The 5153 was a good amp,but it wasn't something I couldn't wait to plug into. Never owned the stealth or the 50 watter, just kinda moved on. Too many other amps I wanted to try.

Sold my 100 watt ( anemic blue channel) but still have the 100s and the 50watt. My Mesa Jp2c and Splawn Nitro get more play time. I meant to sell the Nitro but after getting it serviced for some silly issue it all of a sudden sounds like the angriest a Marshall ever. I might sell off my EVHs and keep the Splawn and Mesa.

I still have my 50 watt for now, but I am thinking about selling it along with my other amps for a PRS Archon 25 watt combo. I got an Archon 100 head a while back, and it is just killer!!! The 5150 III 50 watt killed my amp gas for quite a while, but that Archon is just in another world to me.

I moved to the JVM Satriani which a good friend bought from me because his GAS for it was unbelievable and then to a Bogner XTC. I've had the XTC for a year now and still love it! Took me 15 years to finally get one LOL!

Diezel D - Moll, I loved the EVH5153 50 watter i had. I didn't think i would ever swap it, i regard it as one of the best amps in its price range (i've tried most). I purchased the D - Moll without trying it first, which was a massive risk, but i really love it even after the honeymoon period.

The Diezel is by far and away the best amp i've ever owned. Having said that, if the band split up i couldn't justify keeping it around ( i have a young family and money doesn't exactly grow on tree's!!) but i would look at the lunch box 5150 for jamming in the house or at a pub/bar.

Bogner Shiva (regular non-anniversary version)
It Just sounds right no matter what
Just plug it into v30's or greenbacks and you get instant pro studio-like tone
It's Just like that
You really have to force it to make it sound less than great

I recently had to sell my 2002 Shiva to pay the bills
It was the best amp I ever played, along with a couple diezels (Einstein and vh4s) and other Shivas
It sounded close to newer Shivas, but punchier and considerably less compressed without having less gain
The loop was awful, though, but manageable with low channel volume settings
I also played the anniversary version side by side with the 2002 and a newer Shiva, but it was way too saturated for my tastes and had an overall different and more aggressive voicing and feel than the others

Wait what?

I only played the 100w but I felt it was pretty articulate (in drop-C tuning).

side by side with an A/B pedal I was shocked at how much clearer it was (comparing ch3 to the Bogner lead). Just my tastes anyhow, ymmv.

Have a 50 watter and started putting an MXR in the loop trying to get it to sound more Marshall-esque. My DT30 has me thinking about dumping it for a Rockerverb though.

I found the same with the Archon. I have two identical 1x12 cabs side by side, one with the 5150 III, the other with the Archon, and going back and forth between the two the Archon has so much more separation between the notes, and just an awesome clarity to it. Going to the 5150 III after the Archon sounds kind of cloudy/congested for lack of a better way to put it, it is like all the notes blend into one instead of being clear, and distinct.

Still have an ivory 100 watt and stealth halfstack but have moved onto the AX8 for gigging.

Just reading this thread made me think that it would be hilarious to put up a graph of the timeline showing the path that many/most forum users of channel switchers have gone from brand/model to brand/model, just endlessly wandering from amp to amp. Sure, there are those who keep and play their amps for many years. But most of the most vocal forum participants seem to be like honey bees, buzzing from flower to flower (myself included). Oh well... keeps the flowers pollinated... errrr... the amp builders in business I mean.

Went to a Splawn QR, and now on to a Friedman Runt 50 (Still have the QR). To me its about quality of gain rather than quantity of gain. 5150 series of amps have always had an ungodly amount of gain, but even with the 5153 found them to be a bit noisy and fizzy up top. Maybe its just the voicing of the 5153 amps I couldn't quite gel with.

I moved on or back to the 5152/6505+

I still like the Evh 5153 a lot , Since I use the red channel on both amps the most I found the 6505+ to actually have better clarity and note separation than the Fender EVH surprisingly. This is a benefit for rhythm in my case. I found the leads tone to be a little sweeter on the EVH so its a trade off. Also I will say I like the blue channel on the EVH more than the crunch mode on 6505+ however both are good...The cleans are actually similar ..... I might try the new EL34 EVH when it comes out , why not right ? :)

I also like the PV6505+ better than the 5153 (all varieties including the 100S Stealth).

After dumping my 5153... I went back to Engl.
