i was more of a metal guy, then started hanging with the skaters in like 88, in 8th grade.

they ALWAYS used to bust my balls cause i loved the standard hair/thrash amalgamation we all do to whatever degree or another.

some other bands i did learn to REALLY like were:

inxs
the cure
sex pistols
dead kennedys
dead milkmen
anthrax when anthrax were less...serious
chili peppers (party on your pussy anyone?)
odd man out
seven seconds

im sure there were others...just off the top of my head.

I am sure I am missing others, but most of these bands I got into because of my girlfriends. It was mostly 80's hair metal, British Metal, hard rock, and thrash for me!!

I actually picked up the new Rick Springfield and it is really good as was previous release.

Still great music that I like to check out on the 80's channel on satellite radio.
Ah.... those were the days.

Loved and listened to all of it and I also hung out with a lot of new wave and punk guys who hipped me to a lot of cool stuff.

The Bottom line is it is my personal opinion that a musician will have an open mind and love music regardless of genre or labels slapped on it.
it doesn't mean that you will love all if it, as we all have our opinions ,but I lump music/bands into what I like or dislike lol

When you start limiting yourself to specific genres you tend to be a bit narrow minded or that behavior that reminds me of when you were a kid and just starting to figure out the type of music that you really like and anything that wasn't that..sucked (or that's what you told your friends lol )

I flip-flopped between metal and pop. Listened to a lot of the bands listed already, Saga, INXS, The Cure, The Cult, etc.

I'm a huge fan of The Cars (Elliot Easton is the man). Someone mentioned The Outfield. "Play Deep" stood the test of time for me. I still play that album constantly and never get tired of it. Same with Duran Duran's "Rio".

I was into punk, hardcore and then thrash in the 80's. I was also a fan of Priest, Maiden, VH, Ozzy...although I really did not care for "hair metal" at the time. I have developed a new appreciation for it in my old age though.

Diving deep

This typified pop in the 80s for me. Loved it and still like to listen when it hits the classic rock stations. The quasi 80s Sammy Hagar mullet was awesome. The 80s sure made it okay for guys with curly hair to grow it out and look somewhat current for the time.

Phil Collins

Love The Stray Cats (Brian and Lee make killer solo stuff now) and Nervous Night by The Hooters was one of my favorite albums of the 80s.

Phil Collins may be a little cheesy but he was a great song writer and drummer. His voice sounded great all the way through his final tour. I don't care what anyone says but one of the best late at night driving in your car tunes ever:

I liked all of those that you mentioned Dano...I saw Huey Lewis live and was absolutely blown away at how great they were. Their guitar player kicked all kinds of ass and they were so much more than "Hip to be square" it wasnt even funny.. I saw Duran Duran on the Rio tour and that was an incredibley good show as well..
