Yeah, I wrote mike about 3 or 4 yrs ago to get a Marshall modded and was told he was busy and to check back at summers end. I did check back continually every year since and am told he is to busy to tAke in any work. I understand but it still stinks. Dans work looks awesome as well but the shipping cost and risk make it iffy to me.
If the risk you're talking about is loss or damage due to shipping I hear you, but I wouldn't worry about not getting your amp back from Dan, he's a great guy.

Mike has to sleep sometime... Leave him alone
He's probably one of the busiest people on the planet and he has a family. The scope of his work has changed drastically from what it was 3 years ago. If he is too busy to concentrate on putting out his own amps at the moment, I doubt doing mods to Marshalls are high on his list for obvious reasons..
Let the man do his work..

There is a clean channel option too, but I don't know which of the Kali series it's available with. There is also a Joe Holmes Jose mod (the one with parallel channels and the pre-amp insert loop), but that cannot be combined with any efx loop or clean channel mods...

This KK++ is more like it. Sounds good!

And this Cali clip is sweet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVYUd26mRrQ Has a great snarl/compression in the upper mids that I look for. This one too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xl-qarMyG40

But looks like the KK++ gets a bit heavier. I'd love to know what a violence control is too. I wish amp builders would just call their controls what they actually are. Instead of saying "Doom Switch" just call it a variable NFB control. Instead of saying "Phantom Laser Knob" just call it an extra gain control, etc. Would make it a lot easier to understand what the amp is voiced for.
Its a switchable extra tube gain stage that is inserted after the tone stack with its own drive control. Heavier than a hippo

No, I sure didn't meAn I was worried about getting my amp back. I know Dan has a stellar rep. I was referring to the added cost and risk of shipping an old amp overseas both ways. I still have a spare jmp I may send out when I get around to it though.

Cool. That's what I thought you meant, but just wanted clarification...no harm no foul.

DAN GOWER AMP MODS
.................

Ross

Thanks for posting that info Ross! Hope you're having fun with the modded Vintage Modern

Yeah so there is the Cali and Killer Kali++, and the difference is that the Cali is 3 gain stages + diode clipping (3 switchable settings). While the Killer Kali++ is 4 gain stages, all tube circuitry and has a drive control specifically for the added tube.

I can put the diode clipping option in the Killer Kali++ for extra $ if you need it. With that said, it's not really necessary considering there's already an extra gain stage added.

If you guys need anything, email me any time at Dan@DanGowerAmps.co.uk  I usually get through my emails within the same day.

BTW like nzsteve said, i can always help source an amp for you if you're in the USA and if you don't want to ship anything over here. Saves you $$$ by only having to ship one way (shipping to the USA is around £150 GBP).

Can someone describe Dan Gower's mods to me ? What is the difference between the Kali, Killer Kali, and the Killer Kali++ ?

I'd like to know as well.

The Killer Kali and KK++ are the same mod. The difference between the Cali and KK++ is an added 4th gain stage that is adjustable. SICK FUCKING AMP. Just ask OUTLAW and metalmaniac93

Yep!!! AWESOME!!! Best mod out there IMO, but I don't know much!!      Dan's work is awesome and his customer service is like no other!!!

The violence knob is the extra 4th gain stage with no diode clipping. It gets real heavy!!! I mean down right brutal and I only use mine around 11-12 o' clock. You can also fine tune the gain via the two main gain stages. Plus you have the main bright switches to fine tune it even more. This amp is so versatile.

No bother Dan - Loving the VM - fantastic tone!

Dan has built me 3 amps and I can vouch for him 100%. His work is second to none. And, he is a monster player.

Mike is a shining example of good things happening to good people. His hard work paid off.

dan is great to have a mod done. No worries with his work or business ethics.

I had a Cali Mod of Mike's and I flipped it pretty quick. It didn't do anything my Quickrod couldn't do. Quickrod had more options actually with 2 channels and the foot switch. Mike seems like a real cool dude though.
