Fortin Cali Mod Marshall VS Splawn Quick Rod

I owned a quickrod for awhile and thought it was a solid amp. ZERO lowend "in person", but recorded well probably due to this. Also owned a nitro. total VOMIT IMO. Both amps seemed well built. The quickrod is a great bang for buck amp. I kept it longer than any of the Diezels I owned. YMMV.

No low end? If one needs more low end then it may be time to start playing bass

I love the 'for the price' sentiment as well...as if $1800 is some kind of budget amp lol

I have been around all he forums for a very long time and the Splawn butthurt is unmatched by any other amp owner, hence the term Splawn Police. HCAF was the worst...total comedy back in the day.

I owned 3 Splawn modded Plexis. Two hundred watters and one 50 watter. They sounded great at mid volume but the amps went to shit at gig volume and the boost he put on the amps was so full of mids it sounded like a totally different amp when it was engaged. I sent it back to him and it came back to me the same way so I sold them all. I actually sold the 50 watter early on as I am a 100 watt guy anyway.

A couple years go by and he starts building his own amps. Over the years since, I have played a few of them and they are definitely good amps, no doubt. I liked the Nitro the best. Having said that, I personally found amps that I think sound better and work better for me.

ah yes the good old vs thread :D

The problem with these threads is that you are always going to get a difference in opinion because we all like different things.

Ive said this in many threads but this question is literally like asking someone what the best color is and then arguing about it :D

~R~

Come on you 80's metal hack with rubber band strings and hiding behind cascade bitch preamps.  We all know PURPLE is the answer. :D

The photoshop of Dirty Craig's head in a BMW was hysterical as was his giving HCAF the finger from his poolside chair while drinking a Corona.  Legendary.

Well those of us in the Know absolutely know that Purple is the best color on the planet and that high gain cascading preamp with guitars setup with micro action and rubber band strings is where it's at..... but not everyone is ready for, or can handle the truth :hys:

If your comments were directed at my post, please re-read what I wrote. I wrote that its a great bang for buck amp. That means great value to me. No budget bugera crap. Then I went on to compare it to some of the most expensive amps (Diezel) and said I kept it longer, i.e. liked it more. As for lowend, the quickrod I owned had the least amount of lowend I've ever experienced in an amp. That could be good or bad based on what a player/band needs. That wasn't an opinion, just a fact/observation. Anyway, whatever

Anyway you said you didn't say the Splawn sucked but you equated it with a door stop . .Huh. . . Well , to me that means someone said it sucked.

Also once again , my 1982 Cali /jcm800-bass amp is about the easiest playing amp I could imagine at any volume, and just plain AWESOME amp , but I don't have the solo volume boost -thing on it , and I tend to need that for my gigs.

Yeah. the doorstop thing did sound negative. That's means it's not good for anything other than that to me. And Steve's description of the plexi, 800, 800 on steriods sounds like the perfect amp to me. But hey, folks are different.

Also, Eric, you know the clean boost in the loop thing right? Works perfect in an amp with a good loop.

Damn I was thinking of getting a QR

I better not mention I was looking at a Blackstar Series One also

Oh definitely the clean boost in the loop for lead solos. . BUT not when you're using a PARALLEL loop . . The CALI has a switchable Parallel , Series loop and it is a great loop (I have other great ones also on other amps) . . Anyway , I like using a delay in parallell , so you really want the boost in series.

My splawn nitro may have a bible reference.....

...but my other amp is signed by the devil (purported)....

so it all balances out.

least that's the way I think about it.

Well, I got to admit, this outpouring of sentiment is inspiring.

Your entitled to your opinion and I did ask. Funny that you only called it a doorstop, on another thread someone said of the Bogner Twin Jet "Channel one is complete shit and channel 2 not much better. I get better tone in my bathroom 20 minutes after eating Chinese food." That went pretty much unchecked.I guess there's no Bogner police around here.

The over reaction on both sides of the argument here is epic. :gethim:
but know this, there is no golden buddy lurking out there by way of say one builder due to this or that.
Price versus quality or what not.
It's a big ass world and not a one of these guys is perfect.
Things one consumer may get, the next may not. to each his own.
Killer tone's post is about as fair and objective as is gets in this thread.
P.S. Purple is the color of success.
