Mike was kind enough to send me his Modded Arsholl 50 watt small box for me to check out (love the Arsholl logo
)
This is the same amp that Dave Z. used for the clips and All I can say is that I want one....and I want one now. IT fucking RIPS!!!
If this wasn't a test amp that Mike freeqently Mods I would have already asked him if I could buy it lol
needless to say, Im sending him one of my 100 watters for him to Mod to this spec
The amp is layed out like a Normal Marshall -> presense,bass,Middle and Treble but it has the addition of a Master Volume and 2 gain controls. Directly underneath the Master is a Loudness 1 toggle switch and underneath the Gain 2 there is a loudness 2 togle switch and directly underneath the gain one there is another toggle. Each one of these toggle switches has 3 positions.
On the back of the amp there is a feel Knob. This allows you to set the feel of the amp to either tight or Spongy! Im not sure if this is a stock option though lol! I think Mike put that on for me being that I like both the tight and spongy feel when it comes to amps
*(Mike Rules!
)
Here what each toggle does:
The toggle Switch underneath the master volume controls the amount of compression or should I say saturation. Switching it all the way to the left gives you the most Saturation and it also cuts the volume down...VERY COOL(my Fave...go figure lol)!! The volume cut is great for guys like me who live in a condo..You get this saturated ballsy sustaining sound at TV volumes but the cool thing is that you can get the volume back by turning it up! When you turn the amps master up in this mode it gets insane sounding... Don't get me wrong, the amp sounds great low and you'd be happy with it but as soon as you give the amp some gas ....HOLY SHIT!!
Switching the Toggle in the middle gives you your stock sound but will some more balls (way better then stock IMHO) and the volume comes up to normal leves!! There is a very cool VH vibe here when you crank the amp and switch the bright cap off(more about the broght switches later on!)
Swicthing the toggle to the far right gives you a less saturated sound then having it all the way left and its less compressed. To me this is a happy medium to all of them and having these options should satisy EVERONE IMHO. If you are a gain freak like me and you like compression then the far left toggle would be for you. if you dig more of the stock marshall vibe but with a kick in the ass... The middle toggle is for you. If you are a gain freak like me and want less compression.. The far right it for you
Not a bad sound in this thing and the bases are covered IMHO.
Keep in mind that even on the most extreme setting that even though I say compressed...Its not Overly compressed.. I don't want to give the worng impression here!!
Bright switches:
The Toggle Underneath Gain 2 and undeneath Gain one are Bright Switches that allow you to select 3 types of sounds!. The higher the gain settings the less effect the bright switches have. The addition of this is amazing since it can drastically alter your tone. This is not a one trick pony amp. Working both gain post in different position with all the combinations of the bright switch positions gives you a plethora of options to tailor your tone.
WAY COOL AGAIN! Setting the bright switch to the far left give you one sound, I belive the middle is off and to the right kicks in a different value.
Well that's pretty much what it does..... How it sound is another thing. Dave Z. Was able to show you two different distinct sounds and Im getting tons more by playing around with it.
I love this sucker and Im sending Mike an amp within a few days!! Who needs to pay credit debt lol
All the best!!
Ralph
