toroidal PT ftw.

how the hell did you know about that beast hunter lol

I ran across this one a year or so ago, and keep it in my bookmarks, it's always a good one to post :D

By the way, I'd like to play one. Laney GH100s have torroidals too and sound great!

It seems very well built and quality items too, have a look:

Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. With that said....

A $5000, 6 channel amp? I think this has officially jumped the shark of the amp world. I'm sure it sounds great but, come on.

How about a mass producted LP Custom for $4000 made in the 1000s? Just several pieces of wood and is made in several hours pretty much?

You pay about $6 for a 12 pack of beer right? Anything more would be silly as it does the same thing as the foofoo beer, gets ya drunk.

I feel the same way about the $4000 LP custom. The beer analogy however, is poor!

Bud's end effect is the same as foofoo private stock :D Why pay more for the same end effect? :D

There's plenty of 3 or 4 channel amps that cost $4500 - 4600 on the market already. Given that I don't think this is outrageous at all.

With that said, I have nothing against Fortin Amps and hope they do well. I guess I am just taken aback by this, and find it...shocking...which maybe was the intended goal?

I disagree. When I drink most mass produced beer, I feel like shit. :D

But comparing spending $10 vs $6, is a little different. I don't even have a problem with the $5000 price tag. Obviously, there are people out there willing to pay it, or he wouldn't be making the amps. Nevertheless, I find the amp completely ridiculous. I think sometimes on message boards like these, we tend to live in a bubble. Acceptance is easy when there's a lot of like minded people around. Basically, I see no real life scenario where you need 6 channels at the expense of $5000.

I feel the same way about single channel cork sniffer amps, amps that are basically just marshalls and they have a different name on them, christ these guys don't even come up with thier own colour scheme let alone changing the layout, I can't imagine paying 3K for a single channel amp! Nor can I imagine paying 400$ for a distortion pedal that has 1 knob, I think you can chalk it up ti different strokes for different folks.

I don't know if it's people living in an internet bubble either, these amps are just that fucking good!

Try buying a dumble clone for $5000 and being told the dumblalator needed for a loop costs $2000   That is why I am not phased by the asking price, people are paying $5000 for a ripoff of someone else's work and it is a single channel with mystic terms such as HRM tagged to it.

I understand the sticker shock but put into perspective and once you have weighed the options and the other amps in it's price class the price is fitting.

I agree.
The $$ amp builders are asking for their 'Marshall clones' is ridiculous!
1 channel...6 knob....nothing magical inside.

And that's your opinion. Hey We are all different. I also see no real life scenario where Eric Johnson or Joe Bonamassa needs to take upteen million pedals and amps to a gig either but to each there own.

The point is that for some, this will be their dream amp and for others like yourself it will be like WTF lol. I also don't see or agree with your bubble referance but that's just me.

Hell I love Mikes stuff and I opted for a 2 channel because it will work better for me.

Exactly Ralph!

And like you said before, this is exactly why Mike makes different amps so that there is something for everyone!

If i go for a Fortin at some point, (which i will), i'm thinking the NATAS may be right up my alley. I love the tone and simplicity of the Bones, but i was blown away by the tone from the HULK 800 which from what im told is almost like a NATAS prototype.

Even though im really only a single channel kinda guy, i could be 110% happy with the Meathead. Just because it has 6 channels, it doesnt mean you have to utilise every single channel when you play a gig. You could switch between several channels when playing one type of gig, but then say you have another gig or even a cover band gig... You then have all the options there if you need them.

I posted the original post on 7 forums ..... to see what people think .

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=50425&start=50

If you look on this page you well see a gut shot. Can you guess how much time it would take to put this together ? How much time would be needed just to make this work ? The quality of the parts ? The price of those parts ? What is your time worth ?

Divide the price by 6 the number of channels and then figure each channel (so I believe) can be set up for 2/3/4 gain stages and a boost option. That is 6 voices for each channel.

The power section can be voiced a lot of ways by changing out the tubes. You do not need to bring it to the shop or take it apart to do this. Then match these with preamp tubes.

This all makes it so you can get the voices you want.

..... The only reason I have not ordered one yet is I do not have 5 G sitting around. I need to sell some gear and come up with some money. ...... It is not because I do not think it is worth the money asked.

I have known a few of the guys that do small amp company's. None looked like they were rich. If that was the case I would be building amps myself. These guys do this because they live it.

I believe you get what you pay for .... maybe you see it different.

Well with the Hulk sold, the Meathead will be ordered this week!

The long wait ahead of me will be torture but It will be so worth the godamn wait!

I can't wait for you to see the custom look of the Meathead!
Thanks so much Mike for lettin me come over and bug the shit out of you and play this monster!

Cheers!

Ain't that the truth ;) Something else will come along that sounds great and/or Ralph will decide to go full circle and get something he used to have before again that he thought he could live without just like the rest of us addicts :D
