Fortin NATAS Girth / Grind... In a Pedal?!

Would love to try this with my Uberschalls. Sometimes my Maxon OD 808 adds too many mids for my taste.

Got my Grind yesterday, ran it through my Triple Recto and my BE. Awesome pedal. Love it. It made my recto sound like that at video. It does exactly what that name implies. Gives it a nice grind and cuts the flubby bottom end. It's very quiet too. Didn't add any noise, while my OD-808 adds a lot. I Highly recommend this pedal, I'm thinking about getting another one.

The noise from the Tube Screamer type pedals sucks..... Noise gate just messes up the sound way too much.

How did it work out with the BE?

I had to back off the treble and presence as it became too piercing. The BE already has a tighter bottom end. I like what it did to the tone/feel, but the effect wasn't as pronounced as it was on the recto

It really is a killer pedal. I love my TS pedals, but I've been wanting something with a little less noise and that doesn't chop off so much top end too. I ran it through my Cali, and it was exactly what I have been looking for. Not that the Cali needs a pedal to get tight & chunky, but dialing in a wider, bassier tone with less gain at the amp and then slamming it with the grind is a monster tone.

I am interested in this for my Killer Kali++. Wonder if it would really be beneficial though with this amp since I have an array of tonal options? :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

so...it's a ... presence pedal?  for 250?

I don't know/give a fuck what it is.... All I know is that it makes my amp sound a lot better than any other OD pedal I have and I don't know how to build one myself. $245 shipped is worth it to me.

Don't worry about what anyone says, your always going to get some assbag in the community trying to shoot something down before he's even tried it to base any kind of opinion off of. Glad your getting some killer results. Money is only paper with nothing backing it...you only live once, spend it how you like regardless of what the peanut gallery has to say about it. Glad your digging it, looking forward to getting mine, it appears it's held up in customs.

I haven't played the Killer Kali++, so I don't know how different the controls and tones are from the standard Cali. The Cali has it's fair share of switches and tonal options as well. In the tight mode with all the switches to the left the Cali can get that tight, direct, focused signature Fortin grind without the pedal. In the spongy mode you get a wider soundstage, but give up some of the focus and tightness. With the grind pedal it bridges that gap basically. I have some TS's and an SD-1, and sure they can bridge that gap too, but for my tastes this pedal does a better job.

I picked one of these up when I saw this thread. I am very impressed. Functionally, it's not the sexiest or flashiest pedal out there but boy, does it make a huge difference. I had a chance to try it out with a few different amps (Triple Rec, 5153, Uberschall, BE100). I can say that the Uber's and Recto's benefit from this pedal the most. I assume that everyone's first stop with the Recto is running it in front of the second/third channel set to "Modern." While that certainly sounds amazing...I was even more amazed with the "Vintage" setting. It had this huge, grinding, low-mid-range that was super authoritative. With the 5153 and BE100, I got better results with those amps if I dialed in the amp with the Grind pedal on...but the overall sound of those amps wasn't improved as much as the Recto/Uber.

For what it's worth, I also ran it in front of my Axe-FX II and had similar results (try it with the Splawn Nitro model  ). Bottom line is I love the pedal! I could imagine this making a huge difference in a recording situation; it gets rid of a lot of the "junk" in the guitar signal that clouds up a mix and gives you more of what you want.

The recto vid showed up on Facebook the other day so I gave it a listen and wow, that's some great crunch going on. I guess it's at least as good as a maxon od808 and if it really is quieter then it's worth the 250 to try it out. I'll be picking one up with my next paycheck.
Can't wait!!

Anyone try this with a 6505 yet? The other guitarist in my band has been looking for ways to tighten his sound and increase the attack.

Has anyone tried it running at 12 volts yet? I'd be interested in knowing what kinds of tonal differences, or noise level differences you see.

I tried it with a 6505 model on my Axe-FX II - It definitely tightened it up...but the treble, mids, and presence needed to be dialed way back.

I want to try one. I wonder if it's like the one built into my Thrasher? LOL double boost?

I had the thrasher. It pretty much works like the Grind knob. I don't get much of the Girth from it. When I had the Thrasher, I liked the Girth set low, like 9:00 and the Grind more at 1:00+. This pedal gets me the effect of doing that on my Recto

I'm not sure you need it with a thrasher.

Good to know bro thx :)

Mike said it is his favorite settings of the girth and grind on the Natas put in a pedal.... So you have it covered.
