I was thinking of something where everyone records a solo and then all the solos get put into one big long jam.. like the James Lugo forum jam that happened a while ago. Always good fun and it's great to hear everyone's individual take over a backing track.

I'm no expert when it comes to recording, so i don't know how to piece all the solos together and deal with all that stuff. Maybe someone who has the knowledge to do that stuff could help out and take care of that?
No way I'm getting involved in that. I've had solos I've submitted not get lined up right and end up sounding like crap. I've had them mixed so poorly with the track that they sounded horrible. If someone puts up a backing track and we all do our individual takes on it, I'm up for that, but these compilations of a dozen solos never turn out well IMO...

Steve

HA! I've had a solo edited so it would sound hack.

That happened to me in the Lugo jam...my solo was placed just a hair off timing-wise and ended up sounded pretty wonky IMO.

Actually the track that was sent out for people to solo to was a protools HD file consolidated to zero on a grid, so if your solo was out it's because something was not followed in the protocol. Meaning everyone was TOLD to send me their solo consolidated to zero and about 25% came in bounced from somewhere else in the song. Also inferior DAWs like Garageband and Acid have sample rate issues. I am a professional engineer that does this for a living and I have to line up tracks everyday of my life for a living, I know how to place a track on a grid. And honestly it's comments like this make me want to have no part in anything like this with rig-talk again. My professionalism has been tarnished from this site, and this is not directed at you but most of the time it has been from fucking weekend warriors who wouldn't last 1 day in the music business.

P.S. On a side note it's time for me to take a break from RT. If anyone wants to communicate with me do it via email or phone.
That wasn't meant as an insult to you...it was my fault for giving you a Windows Media file. I was just supporting Steve's point that it can be a bitch for somebody to line tracks up correctly when there's dozens of them. My apologies...I could have done a better job making my point.

Ooops...posted a PM here

Well that spiraled quickly

I'd love to do it, and now have a set up (and someone who knows how to use it), that would let me participate....my days of the iPhone leaning against a beer can are over :D

I think I could be down for a little jammin. I can set the bar pretty low with my solo so the rest of you sound really good. : )

Seriously though, I like this idea.

No offense dude but comments like these lead me to question your professionalism and make you the last guy that I would ever want to deal with If I was interested in seeking out the services of a recording engineer.

I'm in!!!!

We used to do this regularly on the Warmoth forum, but it dried up slowly & died.

Too bad as it was a lot of fun.

Wow James just kind of exploded!

I always think these are fun - count me in! I epsecially like when it's how James did it - where you don't hear other peoples takes and then you get to hear them all at once. You get to hear how everyone approaches things differently and there's no influence from one person to the next.

I'd give it a (10 Rehearsed takes...) try!

IMO, the easiest way to accomplish "Every ones takes get put together without fucking it up", would be to have the jam be an MP3 Loop style chunk of music. 16 bars or whatever. Each person record HIS take on top, mixed like he likes. (Plays two back to back if yar a talented wanker!) We post here. "If" some one wants to, (I could, I'm sure theres tons others that could as well) Just paste em back to back into one long track. No ones take gets screwed with.

:)

Geez, what a baby. Why don't you take a break from rig-talk or something?
