Hey, all!

New to the forum, here and I'm lookn' to dig up some details on the Mills Afterburner. I recently ended up with a framus cobra and the only cabs I've matched it with so far were Mesa standard slants. Sounded pretty good to my ears, but everybody and their mothers seem to be rockn' Mesa cabs. More power to em, but I'm looking to open up my horizons a bit. From what I read, Mr. Mills engineered a cab that some refer to as "a much more defined Mesa Oversized". His speaker selection seems interesting enough, but I've never played though Green Backs. I also live in Alaska where trying before buying a cab like this may be out of the question. But that's also how I ended up with the cobra.. And I couldn't be more more thrilled with it. Particularly the clean channel, so I'd like a cab that has the ability to really bring that out, along with the Cobra's nastier side. So I'm curious to know where the Cobra/Mills owners stand on this combo. Though honestly, Dave and his rave reviewers may have already won me over. Thanks, fellas!

I've never played either, but I've never heard anything but great things about the Mills cabs and they tend to attract people who are into heavy, percussive metal, the same cats who buy Framus Cobras so I'm sure you won't be dissapointed. As for speakers, can't help you there.

Good luck on your search and a warm welcome to the forum. :)

Cheers,

Tawlks.

Im gettin one when I get back to the states to pair with my Cobra... no doubt about it. Just take the plunge, and if you dont like the cab, then Ill buy it off you.

Get greenbacks for the cobra, V30's don't go with the cobra very well, since the cobra is tight and V30's are tight/stiff. Framus put greenbacks in their cobra cabs because they are looser and have a different midrange that really works for the cobra.

I rocked a Wizard 4x12 cab with some of their speakers that are like a greenback... it was TITS!!! Also ran a hughes and kettner 4x12 with greenbacks, and it was good, but not as good as the Wizard. Roadifier is correct though, just throw some greenies of any style speaker and you should be getting GREAT sounds out of that cab, or any cab of decent construction.

This. Greenbacks really shine with that amp, had that exact combo at one point but swapped speakers between my 2 of my cabs in the meantime. Sounded killer, something about the greenbacks just mesh with the cobra perfectly. Maybe try a quad in one of your cabs?

I have played both... I have a traditional slanted 412 boogie cab and I as well at rehearsal play through a Mills Afterburner w/my Bogner 101b head... Before I played through the Mills, I was going to off my 101b, after I played through it, I really understood how much the different construction of the two cabs can make your amp sound night and day different. I would definitely go for the Mills... now, that being said, I do still love my Mesa cab, but the tonal difference is staggering.

I've played a couple different cobras through my Mills cabs. Sounds good no doubt. I had v30s/GK100s in the Mills. Great if you want a big full sound. I heard the Cobra through a VHT/Fryette Fatbottom and it sounded killer too. Real tight and focused. Actually, one day we had the Mesa oversized next to a Mills and the VHT. The Mesa was outclassed by the other two IMO.

Here's some pics from that ampfest we had.

-Splawn Cab with Chinese Greenbacks.
-Engl Pro Cab with Greenbacks
-VHT Fatbottom Cab

Those three cabs would equally annihilate with the Cobra.

Best match I have tried with the Cobra has been the matching cab and a splawn cab with greenbacks...... The vht cabs sound good with it also, v30 cabs are ok but the cobras voicing works better with the greenies.

As noted above, the best match for the Cobra is the Framus designed cab with greenies. That cab is killer with the new AFD100 amp also!

Hey, hey! Thanks for the welcomes, info and pics er'body! Glad I asked you guys. Like I was say'n, I do live in AK and decent gear isn't easy to come by. Much less, test run. Just gotta take the plunge, I suppose. Which I'm cool with. If I decide whatever I choose isn't for me, I'll post the cab here. Wolfe looks interesting to say the least. Thanks for the recommendation, there. I don't think Ive seen/heard anything through an oak cab before. Decent price too, considering you can have a completely custom build for about 1K. Welp, gots a lil thinkn' to do. I'll check in here again when I've got some pictures n' what not to post. Thanks again!

Well, it took a couple years. But one finally found me.

Thanks, Greg!
