I just tried it in my Greco Les Paul. I actually like it a lot. I typically don’t like hot pickups in a Les Paul. I bought a portable recording set up specifically to get some respectable clips from other people playing as I won’t sell crap with my playing. I told though try to get a quick recording. These are G12-65s so they’re really hard to mic without sounding dark due to the large dust cover. Also I never drop D so bear with my laughable attempt here guys

Sounds great!! It definitely sounds like it has the attributes I look for in a humbucker, too, from the clip. Fairly tight low end, but lots of clarity in the midrange.

I like it. Has a nice little carved out notch in the mids which sat perfectly here. Aggressive sounding.

So, I’ve had a few people inquire about ordering snd pricing. I am not quite there yet, but soon! I am going to be completely transparent but take a little different approach to this like either a lot of current winders and how many started out, I still have a day job. It takes time to organically start a business and grow it the right way. It take a a couple hours to build a pickup. That doesn’t count the ordering and logistics. Supply chain sucks right now and in order to get a complete inventory, I’m going through 4 suppliers. For example, everyone is out of 53mm baseplate. I have a vendor that sell kits with a 53mm baseplate, but I don’t like other parts in the kit, so in order to get a 53mm baseplate, I have to overpay and waste money. And if I go with 52 mm, the only options for cream bobbin are a different vendor and are a different shade of cream than anything in 50mm or 49.2mm. Since I don’t know the potential for orders frequency. I can’t just stock up on a bunch of stuff. So, in reality, if I got a single order, a few hours involved in a single order plus the cost of procuring from multiple vendors is a lose lose.

The key is to do these in batches, which I think a lot of winders do, thus the long order times. I REFUSE to take money and expect someone to wait months. Earlier in the thread I talked about how a lot of winders have several pickup models that are literally the same pickup, just with different magnets. So until I get a predictable order count going, I will probably do batches and list them. I’m not trying to get rich off of these….YET. If I can get away with the batch method to start off with, I think I can keep the prices pretty cheap. A single pickup at a few hours would likely turn into a batch of 10 in 8 hours. Definitely more efficient in terms of production and sourcing parts to keep pricing down.

To start off with I will probably have stupid aggressive cheap pricing on those. Just enough to cover material and fund some new parts to get the next batch going without losing money. I haven’t come up with a price but it will be as cheap or cheaper than some (non-imported mass produced stuff. Parts do make a difference. Carbon content of the screws, slugs, and keeper along with wire type all matter and I will be using the expensive stuff.

PAFs on the other hand are more predictable for parts. 2 conductor, all 49.2mm, some pretty predictable choices. Also the demographic looking to buy well made, hand wound PAFs is willing to pay for the boutiqueness, LoL. A lot of time is spent with the cosmetics here. Hand aging the covers and bone white butyrate M69 rings like a real 59, it can take as long as the pickups themselves. The cost is more and people are willing to pay more. I have 2 sets going to Japan this morning.
