Friedman Jose Wait List

Still waiting on my email !! The amp sounds great from what I'm seeing. Looking forward to getting my hands on one.

Honestly guys, my work schedule is insane right now so I know if I buy one ASAP it's gonna rot for a couple of months lol.

Thanks for all the info!

I'll just be patient and wait for my turn. Or BS and hit 'buy it now' randomly

If you can't play it for a few months, just mail it to me, and I'll promise to return it when you're ready.

Same price .... No wait.

Maybe this is helpful for some. I had a Friedman Smallbox about 8 years ago so I have some ability to compare that amp with the Jose. I also think the Dirty Shirley/Twin Sister is my favorite amp to date. There is no question that the Jose is more full frequency and less polished than the Smallbox BE and Plexi channels.

Everything is really well thought out with the switching between modes and this amp is most def not a one trick pony. Even just the 100 Watt Plexi with the Jose Mods not engaged is awesome. I personally like the 3 and 1 mod the best but the others are great and useful too. The amp cleans up incredibly well with the guitar volume knob. Also really like the two separate presence circuits and putting a system volume on at the end of the loop really adds some versatility and another way to control the volume in a very effective way.

I, generally speaking, try to buy all of my gear used and have never spent anywhere near this on an amp before. That said, My Marshall needs are 100% satisfied with this amp. I don't miss not having any channel switching and I also think the ability to dial in mid gain tones has really not been demonstrated by some of the videos out and is really incredible.

Everyone's needs and what they are looking for are different but I am really impressed and happy with this amp. This amp loves greenbacks and hope at some point try it with v30s.

I appreciate the write-up. I've been wondering just how 'different' this is compared with other amp's in Dave's lineup.

I've owned a BE100 and had a 71' SLP Dave modded years ago and while they were both dope, I was hoping for more reviews like yours. My main thing with the BE is that I always wished it were a little more 'open'. And as time went on, the Phil X head was more of what I was looking for. I've also cycled through a ton of cool amps (SLO, M-Zero OD; etc) after catching GAS but I'm at the point where I'm ready to get an SLP and throw a boost at it and call it a day.

But I'd be lying if I didn't say that I'm after the 'sound'. So if this amp can get me into EVH/Joe Holmes territory sonically, it's a win. Everything else is settings and technique.

And from what I heard on Nielson's clips on YT, this can nail it but it's not a one trick pony (like you mentioned).

And if it doesn't scratch the itch, back to an SLO I go lmao.

Sucks that this amp cannot be tried anywhere before buying. I'm curious if the Jose amp has a "chewy" feel when palm-muting, like how the BE has that putty feel that makes you earn it. I bought my BE50 late in 2024, and I probably should have just waiting 8 more months for the Jose. Idiot me.

I do think this amp is pretty different from the BE-not saying it is better or worse but just feels/sounds more old school to me.

I think that Michael's video is incredibly accurate with what to expect and I used a number of his settings when learning how to dial in the amp. That video really walks you through all of the various mods and ways to set up the amp.

Totally hear you on the try before buy and no question was on my mind if when I got it... If I didn't like it that was going to be a problem. I hear the BE 50 is a great amp! I think for people who own BE's, it is probably a tougher call to understand if the differences are enough to justify the purchase and having both.

I wonder if Matt's Music near me in MA will get one. Total shot in the dark but I think they're still a Friedman dealer.

But it's whatever. It'll go the way of most boutique amps where you have to buy it to try it but consistency shows it'll probably be a knock out.

Man, that's my thought too. Like listening to Holmes' tone on the Farmikos record and those palm-muted lines have so much bite on them to where they're almost percussive.

That's kind of where I was going with the whole, 'wanting a Phil X amp' angle.

Having gain and extras on tap but keeping that old-school early 70s SLP thing throughout it's DNA.

His videos trip me up because as I'm jonsing for this, I keep thinking of his 'Sykes Inspired' video with that old JMP and Mesa 5 Band EQ lmao. I'm like, there it is! Easy peasy.

Mine got here earlier today. Been playing it for a few hours. I like it. Though, the way I dial it in, it's very similar to my Skeleton Key. The SK is one of my favorite amps, so I guess that's a good thing. I play my SK with a boost into the low input. With the Jose, I just boost it with my SD-1. Compared to the SK, the Jose has a more open sound to it. Not as much gain (but the SK has a ton). I love the vintage presence, keeps things raw and aggressive...much more so than any other Friedman I've played. The other presence is smoother and what you'd probably expect from a Friedman. I don't really like it much. Prior to this amp, the SSV2 was my favorite Friedman, this is definitely way better for my tastes.

They're direct sale only in the US, so unless one comes in used nobody is going to get one in store
