Got my amp from Dave last week, turned it out in only a few days (!) Sounds fantastic. The saturation switch and fat switch options are a must-do, they add a heck of a lot to the amp. Very dynamic, rolls off well, stays tight under massive gain levels. I love it. Its amazing that it has this much gain but stays clear and focused. Great pick attack, nice singing lead tones that have a really cool harmonic spread to them. Thanks Dave for hooking me up, and turning it out so quickly. You do world-class work. I took a peek inside, and noticed that everything on the board was different (almost) It looked like it was a lot of work. I was wondering, when you add a tube to the circuit, does the new tube become the V-1 position? If not, where is it in the chain? Also, can you use an A-B switch to switch between the BE, and HBE inputs? Or is that not recommended? Thanks again, I am very, very happy with the end result - Jim :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

btw,some good questions that i was wondering about myself..................Dave,is the "added" preamp tube,now,the NEW v1 tube position and,if not,then what position is it,in the chain :confused: ...also,as Jim mentioned,can an A-B box be used "between" the LOW and HIGH (BE/HBE) input jacks :confused:...thanks :D
 
I thought the 4th tube only worked as v1 in the HBE mode. Is that possible? If I tap on that tube I only hear it when I'm plugged into the HBE input or, and this is interesting, if I am unplugged from the BE input. So just not being plugged in seems to engage that new tube and that part of the circuit.
That makes me think an A/B setup wouldn't work because if you plug into the BE you can't engage the HBE.

I'm sure Dave could enlighten us more and obviously he knows more than I do, which is nothing, about his circuits.

the new tube is for the HBE only so then it would be the first. You can't use a a/b when plugged into the BE it disengages the HBE part.
 
Congrats! Dave has my '68 Plexi right now and I'm getting the same as you. Glad to hear you feel the fat and bright switches are a must because I was debating on them.

Which Metro do you have? Is it a Metropoulos build or kit?
 
It was a kit. I got it from a forum member here (Donbarzini) He had a guy from the Metro forum do the build, and the guy did a fantastic job. I believe its a 69? Plexi. Your gonna like the options, I promise you :D
