Well I wasn't expecting my Friedman-Modded Marshall to arrive until today but when I came home after a long day at work, a UPS box was sitting just inside my house. Needless to say, I tore open the box, ran downstairs, and plugged it in.
First off, I have to thank Dave for doing such an awesome job with my amp. When I sent the amp to Dave, the headshell was in really bad shape. It was destroyed when I shipped it and Dave told me that it had been "repaired" by someone before, but obviously they didn't know what they were doing. Dave offered to fix it and did a great job. The amp made it to me just fine and packed really well.
Dave turned my amp into a monster. I literally unleashed hell in my basement last night.
If I closed my eyes, I was playing alongside DiMartini and Lynch on the Sunset Strip. The amp retained the Marshall tone I love in the amp but just took it to a whole different level.
I have never owned an amp that cleans up like this one. It is unreal. I literally was going from cleaner than my JSX clean channel with the guitar volume knob down, to HBE, over the top-distortion. It doesn't have that sterile "clangy" sound with the guitar volume knob down. It really sounds nice.
It is true what people say about the Brown Eye. It just kicks so much ass. You hit a chord and it just sounds really clear and full, even with the volume dimed. I love the HBE as well, especially since I play at low volume, but the Brown Eye can cover alot of ground.
I have the "FAT", "C45", and "SAT" mods. The FAT mod to me, seems great for rock type stuff, rather than metal. It thickens up the sound. I really liked the SAT and C45 together, even with the HBE. When I used those together with the HBE, I just turn the gain down halfway. The articulation is insane.
I can't see how anyone would need a pedal with this amp. It sounds like it has a pedal built-in. Great, solid modded Marshall tone.
I'm just really impressed with the entire process of getting an amp with Dave. The guys at RackSystems were cool as well when they shipped the amp to me and gave me my tracking number right over the phone.
For anyone having an amp done, be patient. You can be rest assured that Dave and the guys are working on your amp. My amp was so cleaned up when it arrived to me. I think they take pride in their job and don't just do the mod, they clean up the inside of the amp, etc. I thought it was a different amp when it arrived.
Anyway, love the amp. If anyone is considering getting a mod done, just do it. If you like modded Marshalls you will not regret this purchase. Thanks Dave!!!
