Friedman PLEX - PLEXAMA

I favor the SL.

It is silly to have both, but these are my dream amps

Both of them can do very similar things, of course.

I know the SUHR can get Van Halen but I typically go to the Plex for that and I set the SL up for a Zepplin vibe

I also have a Wizard vintage classic 100 I like the plex and the SL more than the wizard. The wizard does do something really special with single coils, though for some reason.

For Schitt‘s and grins here’s my first riff that I wrote the minute I played the SL.

Let me know if there’s something you want to hear from one of the amps and I’ll try to get to it

I am interested in the upcoming Royalist tube preamp pedal with the zero watt power amp. Get that Plexi balls out vol at lower volumes. Still need to push air, but less. I feel like I have the 800/MV JMP thing covered, I need an OG sound. My Bugera 1960 is cool but a bit more brittle.

Corey I assume you are running some type of load and interface with IR impulses? Or are you micing an actual cabinet here?

Sounds really nice and dynamic BTW! Great Plexi tones!:2thumbsup:

Absolutely, I like my hearing! Actually had to have it tested at University of Michigan this year and I was really happy with the results for a guy in his 50s

That was into the ox, though I play a lot in the room with a wet dry combo into cabinets.

I finally got set up for microphones about a month ago, but it’s not going to be easy to outPerform some of the IR boxes so I’ll keep using them for recording the next album.

If anybody digs this stuff, give me a follow, please. I just started posting very little in the last six months in may try to do more.

Nice setup!!! Sounds great.

After hearing multiple clips of both, I think the Suhr would be my choice, too. Both the Plex and the SL sound amazing. I keep hearing a little more saturation in the Plex.

I wish there was an amp that did exactly this with a high gain channel too. Those Plexi cleans are hard to beat.

Thanks for sharing

Isn't the difference between the Friedman and the Suhr that one is spec'd to EVH's Plexi and one to Dave's Plexi? The difference mostly just being like 1-3 cap/resister values. I swear Dave described the differences on Tone Talk a while ago.

They got so many things right with the OXbox.....I wish they would upgrade it and give it hard connections. How they implemented their style of IR replicating a speaker is the closest to a real speaker I've heard yet.

I've been hearing great thing about the new Two Note Reload II as well which I'm interested in. I don't like the fact that the OX only works via WIFI from what I have gathered, I want hardline connections.

The plex can do a LOT of cleaner tones, it’s quite versatile. Higher gain to me = a pedal with a plex. I don’t prefer Klons, but the warm audio in front of this is very satisfying

Yes!

On my desk I now have an antiquated though dedicated iPad just for the ox. Boss 3 button foot switch is nice for comp, reverb, delay but doesn’t do eq. I also cut the highs on my personal presets which I learned from Dave Friedman.

Hell, I just ran my SL67 for the first time in a while and, well, I may not sell it now. I can keep it and no longer be tempted by a Plex.

Does the Plex have a bright cap inside?

Both volumes have a 3-way bright switch for stock value, lowered & off. They make a Plexi so much more versatile, especially for cleans and/or lower volumes.
