From Scratch Amp Building Chronicle - 6/13/10 UPDATED!!

. . . a minor criticism:
I see that you've installed a voltage selector too. In case you should sell/build an amp for the overseas guys, please use different on/off and standby switches. Not single pole, but double pole (yours seem to be single pole, right?). In the US the position of L, N and E are fixed (cause the plug cannot be flipped), but here you need to switch off L and N, cause the so called Schuko can be turned 180°. Thats why all EU amps need to have DPDT on/off switches.
Standby: The best way to include a standby is the sec. ACs of the PT, not DC after the rectifier. The reason is simple: there is no switch available which handles 500V DC. Most are tested for 250V AC though, some brands go up to 350V AC. Just to be sure, you know . . . its alaways better to switch the ACs, not the DCs.

Hey Olaf!

I actually don't have a voltage selector in this amp - only an impedance selector. In earlier pics in the thread, I had a voltage selector in just because I was testing fit of my holes and I grabbed the wrong selector. I figure if someone overseas wants an amp, I'll just wire it specifically for them instead of making it switchable. Also, I think you are seeing the SPDT mode switches and not the on/off and standby switches. Both my on/off and standby switches are actually DPDT.

Now let the real fun begin :D

Looks great, Steve.

Did you think about using Jubilee-Knobs? Depending on the rest of the amp (headshell, piping) they might look (not better but) different ;)
Thanks, Olaf - I actually still haven't decided on the final knobs for this one. I've got some creme chicken heads as well.... I'll figure it out once I get it in the headcase, which is burgandy snakeskin with gold piping...

You see, your thing is so perfect that I even saw errors where there aren't any at all :D
Sorry Steve. :)

HA! Olaf - just keep on pointing out anything you see that looks wrong to you. All of you insights have helped me so much I can't even tell you!

Thanks!

I want to get me some Henning, maybe an amp too.
I recommend settling for the amp - much cheaper in the long run.

Thanks, Stan! They weren't too bad in cost, considering mine had to be designed from scratch because I have so many more controls... If you go to Joe's website you can see an estimate of costs for front and back plates and you can decide it it is worth it to you from that...

I'm loving everything about it but the logo. Just not feeling the logo. I'm sure you care. :D

Looking forward to clips!

From what I know of Steve I was expecting something more like this...

Hey that's cool - everyone is gonna have an opinion. I wanted something simple that evokes the Marshall logo so I went with that script. I can evolve it for production if I want...
