Fryette Power Station - gonna pull the trigger

I think my Ho attenuator is damaging my Blankenship 1987. Transformer went out about a year ago, now I’ve pretty much melted a tube socket lol Power Station seems like the top contender!!
 
The Ho Attenuator, which is what the Ultimate Attenuator copied IIRC, has a really wonky impedance. Like 32ohms or something. I'd never trust blasting a high dollar amp into one of those.

I currently have a PS-2a that I have absolutely no need for but I keep it around for whenever I do. Amps seem to get along fine with them.

No need to justify buying new gear here. Whether it’s the culprit or not….BUY IT!
 
Holy crap, i'm surprised your plexi lasted that long with the ho darren! Those things have a wacky impedance curve

The power stations are best in class for a reason. They're rock solid, and the only thing you have to keep an eye on is heat and burning through tubes a bit faster.
 
They come in handy. I got the 50 watt and 100 watt.
If the Effects Loop function isn't needed, I'd give the Tone King Iron Man II a look. I got one of these as well.

yeah so I knew the 32ohm thing. It worked for 20 years, but I always noticed 1 of the power tubes always looked a bit more burnt than the other ( the logo) Based on a conversation with Roy Blankenship I think that impedence mismatch was causing that.

yeah man i used it for almost 20 years, like literally playing it every day for usually a couple hours lol

yeah i’ll just get the 50 watter. I was looking at the tone king but I think I’ll just get the Fryette
 
I have had good luck with the Fractal LB-2, but always think about a power station. I just wish it were stereo.

IMO, and I realize I'm in the minority, the Fryette PS wasn't for me.

I preferred a ppimv on 4 holers, retained the feel, initial attack better.
It didn't work at all with a Mesa Dual Rec in modern mode.
The only thing it offered on amps with a master volume was an effects loop, sound was basically the same.
I much prefer a Suhr RL.
 
I’ve said this before and I say it again about the Fryette PS. I have 2. I originally bought the PS100 and love it. I got the PS2 off of one of our moderators here last year. I use the PS100 as Center dry cabinet (off of speaker out from whatever amp I’m using). I use the PS 2 tapped off of Line out of the amp I’m using. Here is the key…. The PS100 has switchable channels; allows boost when needed. Also has FX loop if desired- I use this for solos (small delay, pitch or whatever when needed)
The PS2 brilliantly has 2 speaker outs and an FX loop. So fx loop has a constant Plate reverb of some sort or whatever modulation I want but always very little reverb effect and it has 2 speakers outs. Full control of the amp and rig now. Does it change tone/color whatever? Not enough for me to give up the control.
 
Just the fact that my PS100 has an effects loop allowing me to effectively use my vintage Marshalls without modding is enough for me to love it. My vintage 50 watt Marshalls never sounded so good. Master volume 4-6 is the sweet spot.
