I think people generally quote the earlier ones (pre-2011 or 2010?) as more raw, and the post-2016 as more refined. Personally I don't think it's a huge difference

after several days of playing this head.....its all that! best marshall based amp i've ever seen or heard. after a week of playing a single coil strat thru it...finally plugged in a les paul style esp 401 with dimarzios...omg. the amp really comes alive. if i plug a real les paul into it my head may explode....! using a mesa recto 4x12 cab with it.

But what a sound...you should grab a cab with greenbacks or G12 65s, or similar...they really love those types of speaker.
