Your post made me go though my Ibanez collection, I have 5 Fugigen guitars. Three RG550 and one RG750 all in between 1987-1994 and a 1999 RG7620. All great guitars and acquired when superstrats were not cool 😃 that's about the price now of a chinese copy.

As for replicas, I had a guy on FB built a JPM copy for me. He did the body and neck and I added the hardware and electronics: Dimarzio JP set (Dreamcatcher and Rainmaker) and Gotoh GE1996T bridge with Gotoh SG381 machine heads.

The guitar is not perfect but it looks, plays and sounds great and it was cheaper than trying to hunt a real one on the used market.

The GOLDEN time to buy the by then terminally uncool metal guitars/superstrats was 1995, when everyone in the media had gone full Retard for Grunge. I made the most killer scores of my life around then..... 🤩

It's amazing to see how much even mid tier guitars of the original Shred era go for now, knowing what I know....

Always wanted a JPM Picasso back in the day, but they are at legit car prices these days. So a very high quality replica will have to be the eventual answer.

The Fender Strat HM reissues that came out in 2020 are built by FugiGen. You can get them well under a grand all day long. I got a MINT frozen yellow HM for $700.

Nope, it's a black one and it's quite beaten up, with nicks and dents (the photo shows it clean). The guy who made my replica could make me a new body for it with a JP's theme

Thanks to AI and some after photoshopping, I have yet to decide which one I prefer. First World problem

The ‘Another Day’ Picasso is fucking sick!!!

Hurts every time I think of this, but I passed on a $300 P3 because it was in rough shape when I came across it. Everything could have been fixed, I just figured they’d be around forever and I’d always have an opportunity to snag a cheap JPM. Ha.

I’m spiffing up my 7620 this year-

I cannot wait to rip that fucking EMG out of that thing and since I need to cover the widened gap with a pickguard, figured I’d go with gold mirror. I’m ordering 7 gold LoPro saddles, 7 gold tuners and I’ll use the nut clamps from a gold 7-string Gotoh 1996t since you can’t get them aftermarket from Ibanez anymore. I’ll swap the tuning machine heads and the bushings to gold, while keeping the black ‘bodies’, the nut and nut screws will still be black. Should look pretty good when I’m done, but that’s the most amount of money I’ll ever spend on aesthetic shit.

I already have some PAF7’s I was going to put into it, but then I found Dimarzio has a ton of options these days and I can get black bobbins w/ gold magnets, so I might grab something more modern for it to keep the color scheme going.

I snagged a Fugijen RG470 for $60 a few years back, dropping a 1996t into that makes it 98.9% RG570.

And here’s a well-worn Ibanez Edge that I swapped from the LoPro about 5 years before Ibanez started putting Edge’s on the 7V’s. On a non-knock-off JEM.

I procured the JPM P2 for $1650 in 1996. Now it's a family heirloom 😄

I agree that mid-90s was the era to go back in time and snap up all those JPM, PGM, UV, JEM.

I believe all MIJ Ibanez guitars are made by fujigen. Ibanez may be the first Airbnb type company that doesn’t actually make guitars, just the designs.

Pretty good watch here, explains it.

A small number of MIJ Ibanez guitars are made buy Sugi, but those are all very expensive. They use a different truss rod from Fujigen and the serial numbers/writing on the back of the headstock is usually a bit different.

I have a pair of Ibanez PS10; MIJ Prestige which are made in the FujiGen factory. I sold my PS120 and two PS60.

I also have two Chibanez PS guitars in different colors. If I could get a new / near new cracked mirror for $5K or less, or PS10 in other colors besides black from Ibanez, I would have purchased them from Ibanez. Ibanez custom shop only does work for Ibanez artists.

After updating with white knobs, chrome pickup selector and a set of DiMarzio D Activator-X. Fit, finish, intonation, balance, etc., are all significantly better than what it cost.
