I sincerely hope he gets an endorsement.

Interestingly enough, I got to play a 50-watt Vintage Modern in a band situation recently with another player who has a MK IV. The Vintage Modern stood up the classic Marshall flag loud and proud, straight in, no FX. On the "High" dynamic range and dialed in, pure Marshall tone right there.

FWIW--The VM also sounds awesome on the "low" dynamic range with a TS or OD-1 in front.

How did the MKIV cut LIVE when you played with the other guitar player?

So all it took was a Mesa combined with John Sykes to draw Ralphie back in to Rig Talk? :)

The funniest part though is most people are chasing classic Marshall tone with every amp except a classic Marshall.

And your Gibson tones are coming from McNaught's and Nik Huber's and your Super Strat's are Anderons?

I see Jay must have the shop as Curt is getting his groove on.

No, I'm at work and Jay isn't here and I am avoiding some end of quarter paper work. Thanks for this thread by the way. Quarterly sales tax forms can wait as can 941's, DE-7's, DE-8's and all their assorted payments.........

So at one point I thought, "If I open up a guitar shop, I'll be able to sit around and play guitar all day."

I was always a huge fan of the mick mars guitar tones.
whaddya know.
SLO
Rivera bonehead

no you can listen to lots of very bad vibrato and pitch problems!

oh yeah and don't forget the HAGGLE! "What's your best price?" " Throw in a strap and strings and case and stand and small Bradshaw rig?!"

Have I been very wrong in thinking that the classic Marshall tone is relatively simple to achieve?

i.e. Guitar - Cable - Marshall - 4x12... All dials at Noon?

Or am I thinking of a different tone?

The other player is playing is MK IV through a Marshall 1960BV. Neither of us play with a ton of gain, so the tones blend extremely well. So far, the best combination we've had is his MK IV + 1960BV and my Splawn Quick Rod + Splawn 2 x 12 w/Small Blocks. The Jet City sounds great as well. Was REALLY surprised that the Vintage Modern did so well, but it's definitely a different beast once you get the volume knob past 9:00 and the KT66's really get going.

True..................just a few steps up from Gibson with McNaught and Nik Huber guitars. Anderson's pretty much make Fenders feel like a dimestore Squire.
