Finally got my fine amount...15 over (55 in a 40)...I won't be doing this again in a hurry.....

I think it's another $59 processing fee for traffic school to keep this off my license too

Sorry to hear that.

This is unrelated but is there some new rule here that we can't type "Fuck" or something? I've seen the FUUUUU several times now.

Holy shit! Looks like they raised the fees up a bit as well. A friend of mine got a $800 ticket for not completely stopping at a stop sign

i drive a manual, and im really bad about not coming to a complete stop. ive always been finessical about it, but im sure some dick-ass cop could charge me if they wanted.

FWIW i got busted doing 64 in a 45 on a back road in the middle of the night.

$250 later for a lawyer, it disappeared and isnt on my record :)

Was that one of those photo enforced intersections? I think those are more $$ than if a police man gives you a ticket, but I could be wrong about that.

Pretty sure those are only at controled intersections and used for speeding and running reds.

That is definitely a lot of money man. That sucks bad. I also was pulled over by the local city police last month
but he let me go and just gave me a lecture. But a CHP won't ever do that man.

Like you, I was just driving 55 on a 40 speed limit. I got lucky that day.

At least it wasn't in Virginia!

Virginia is for lovers, or so the state slogan has declared since 1969. Starting Sunday, Virginia also will be the home of the $3,000 traffic ticket.

In an effort to raise money for road projects, the state will start hitting residents who commit serious traffic offenses with huge civil penalties.

The new civil charges will range from $750 to $3,000 and be added to existing fines and court costs. The civil penalty for going 20 mph over the speed limit will be $1,050, plus $61 in court costs and a fine that is typically about $200.

Virginia's new traffic penalties are expected to raise $65 million a year and are part of an effort to improve the state's roads without raising taxes.

A first-time drunken driver will face a $2,250 civil penalty, plus fines and court costs that typically run about $500 or more. Driving without a license? That's a mandatory $900 civil penalty, in addition to the ordinary $100 for a fine and court costs.

"It's outrageous," says traffic court attorney Thaddeus Furlong of Springfield, Va. "When Mr. and Mrs. Middle Class find out what they have to pay, there's going to be a backlash like you've never seen."

Some other states impose extra civil penalties for traffic offenses, but the cost is usually $100 or $200, Furlong says. "What sets this apart is the Draconian size of the civil penalties," he says.

Another difference: The civil penalties apply only to Virginia residents, not out-of-state drivers. Virginians must pay in three installments over 26 months or lose their licenses. The state Legislature didn't think it could enforce the extra penalties in other states.

"We wish motorists didn't have to pay more, but the fact is Virginia's transportation trust fund is broke," Anderson says.

In my area, they need to step it up and strart giving FAR more moving violation citations, but for things other than speeding. It seems they're only concerned with the gravy, when there are FAR more dangerous violations that are being ignored. The city could make a killing on illegal (failure to yield) left turns and running left turn lights alone. As far as speeding goes, that needs to be dealt with too, but on residential streets where 40-45 MPH is not uncommon.

Sitting around waiting for somebody to "speed" by at 50 MPH in a 45 is just ridiculous and shows the lack of iniative to really server and protect.

And by the way, I have the utmost respect for our public servants, so this isn't coming from the perspective you often see on forums.

Anyway, this is just a rant because I'm frustrated with the seeming lack of effort to resolve what I believe is a real problem in South Orange County.

Sorry to hear about your ticket JKD. It's always a drag getting them, though with only one exception when I was 16, I've earned every one that I've received over the years.

Folks folks folks, don't panic about those little speeding tickets. In Finland the all-time high speeding ticket was around $100.000 because it's set according to your income.

That's an intersting way to determine the penalty for a violation. I can see both up and downsides of the methodology, but interesting nonetheless.

I don't even know what to say on that.

I hate writing tickets with a passion

I always had a hard time punitivley punishing a good honest tax payer for a minor traffic violation that will cost them around 200 to 400 in court costs, not to mention that they have to take a day off work to go to court, not to mention that their insurance will now go up. when all is said and done, that minor traffic gviolation will cost someone several thousand dollars. Now when I did write someone a ticket, I would tell them that i hate writing tickets. I would then then explain to them that if Im giving you a ticket that means your driving like a complete idiot and about to kill someone and your getting what you deserve.
