When I had my Weber 1265, I did try it in a 212 with a CL80. I did not like the mix. The 1265 didn't seem to add anything and just didn't sound as good as two CL80's. So I probably wouldn't mix an MC90 with a 1265 or ET-65.
From what I'm gathering the ET-65 will be overpowered by the V30 in a mix, and the ET-65 and CL80 or MC90 is not a good mix...
So either MC90+V30 or two MC90's or two ET-65's, right?

I've got my Road King 4x12 loaded with ET-65s and V30s. I'll mix and match the individual sides of the cab with a 2x12 loaded with MC90s. I don't think the ET-65s can hang with either of the other speakers. They add some low end with the V30s, but otherwise get lost. You don't even hear them with the MC90s. The MC90s and V30s sound great together though.

By themselves though, I do like the ET-65s a lot. They're the only WGS speaker I've held on to and I've had a lot of them in my cabs (reapers, Vet 30s, retro 30s, green berets).

We did some testing recently at a friend's house. The G12-65s stood out as having more character, were more musical, richer and smoother. This was a Heritage series model compared to the ET65. Both were tested in identical Bogner 212 cabinets. To our ears, the Celestions sounded way better with a band as well. Stick with the Celestions.

I have a quad in the RT classifieds if anyone is interested.

The bottom end is more plentiful & solid, and the top more rounded than a Greenback, but the signature mids are very, very close to the GB signature.

i owned four original G12-65's and agree with this 100%

also, to my ears, there was an EQ mid hump that i could not dial out with mine at all. and i could only get rid of it by cranking it to band volumes.

FWIW i do miss the attitude/voicing of them, but i dont ever want to own a quad again.

they dont compare to 75's at all, they have that 25W greenback attitude instead.

I want a pair of G12-65s, but I need to sell my Stiletto 4x12 cab first.

Really? What do you use now then? I would think this would allow one to really crank the EQ on the amp and the volume which is a good thing. Some speakers have too much highs and lows and you can't do that!

Wonder how these mixes would be:
G12-65/T75
G12-65/V30

Those mixes should balance it out!

hey,
Webers version of the g12 65 is really good. I have it in a cab with a V30 and I was doing some scrutinizing. It has similar characteristics but then a slight high end roll off and a cheweyer feel with a high gain signal. I like it a lot
These are exactly the characteristics I'm looking for: Chewy and a bit rounder on the top end. Would a CL80 or Black ShadowMC90 give me this result? Or should I try two ET-65's?

Nice avatar buddy!

I would HONESTLY, out of the MANY MANY quads of speakers I have tried, get Chinese Greenbacks.

However, for your Mark, I'd go with V30s or MC90s.

Cheers!

If ya get the chance speak with Todd Duane/Ampaddict about this.
he runs gt-65 celestions with v-30's and his clips always flat out rock.
He will be a good resource for info on this mix. :)

Andy Wood's speaker of choice. The Weber 1265s are great, I believe their published price is $110 each + shipping.

Thanks guys. This thread is over a year old, but I'm still using 2 English V30s in the recto cab. I think I'll be mixing in a C90 very soon since I have the Mark now. Seems like a perfect match.

I've got a early 80's Marshall JCM 800 4x12 slant cabinet in excellent condition with the original Celestion G12-65's in it if anyone's interested PM me.

I prefer buying them when people DON'T know they have 65s in them.
Yea, that's always a bonus.

Yeah, I bought a slant a couple years ago for $300. I already told the guy I wanted the cab without knowing what speakers were in there. I opened it up and was like "score".

Schaf

G12-65's....love em. I have an early 80's JCM800 4x12 loaded with these and the thing is absolutely beat to $hit but it sounds fabulous, my 2204 head doesnt sound right through anything else. I don't know what I will do the day this thing craps out....man...quit playing I guess.
