G12M-25 Versions?

@Racerxrated how come the G12C say they come from some other place not Ipswich England?


What is Bletchley England?
 
Watch the ACDC vid on my channel if you want to hear the G12m-20’s. T1511 55 hz with 014 cones. Best GB’s I ever had till they finally died. Would love to find a modern equivalent. Tight full bass, clear and smooth top. Downside were they did not throw the sound very far. Had to be more careful where I stood to hear them.

6402’s were in the 90’ Wizard cabs. Pretty fat sounding, decent bass and not scooped sounding like newer ones.
 
I’m a fan of the 53H1777 cones from the early 2000’s. Apparently same cone as 6402 but a little easier to get ahold of. As others have said, not as bright and harsh high end compared to the Chinese greenbacks I’ve had. I like them so much that I imported an 04’ Marshall BX cab from England that has the 53H1777 cones.

In the context of a tight aggressive metal tone, I’d go after some Chinese greenbacks.
 
For tight aggressive metal I much prefer V30s. G12Ms have their place though.

Semantics. Both are Marshall corporate locations I believe.

Regarding Vintage speakers, it's just like vintage amps. In my experience with this thing we do with gear, vintage versions always have something 'more' than the modern equivalents. 'They don't make em like they used to' is a thing.
Doesn't mean it's better for everyone; but they are different.
 
I agree the G12EVH is a great sounding, lower wattage GB speaker. My understanding is that they are 20 Watt UK GBs with the black cover and the EVH striped label. I've got a well broken-in quad in a straight front Splawn cab and they sound really, really good. A friend of mine had a quad of the Marshall G12C that were originally found in the Hendrix Reissue cab and later found their way into some of the dark purple Vintage Modern cabs. Rated at 25 watts - unsure if they are made in UK or China. But those also sounded really good.
 
The EVH speakers that come in the EVH412 are made in UK Heritage GBs. Love that cab.

Those and the G12m-20 75 hz are my all time fave speakers. At very low volume they do sound good, but once you give them a bit of volume, they turn into pure tone bliss.
 
I've had 4 different versions:
GB RI, China & UK
6402 cones
Heritage/EVH
Greyback RIC cones


My fav are the GB RI. Have a 4x12 loaded with the UKs. Best sounding cab I've had.
6402s were too dark unless pushed, like G12-65s.
Heritage were too smooth, less punchy, but good of you need a quieter speaker.
RICs, they had that vintage vibe going on. 2nd fav. They had a sound, not as versatile. Probably my fav if I could always crank it.

I contacted Scumback and he said he makes a version of the T1511’s I liked. I still have two that were reconed by another company about 20 years ago. Have hated them ever since, may let him try reconing them again and then buy a couple of his for my old cab. Then get a 65 watt pair for my 212 cab.

I hate those. I would never spend the money on speakers I know I will smoke. If they could handle more power that might be worth it but it's not.
