So I watched and listened to a butt ton of videos today regarding the Torpedo Live. I think I'm sold overall (sadly it doesn't take much) BUT before I pull that trigger I just wanted to see if there is anything else on the market similar or even better worth looking into?

And for those that are rocking them already are there any cons worth mentioning? Thanks!

The reactive load would be a great option if you want to get a seperate ir loaded. I have heard that it is slighlty better. I purchased the live before the reactive load came out. I like the fact that i don't have to be chained to a computer and i can rack mount it if i ever want to go FR with a tube head. I do like how small the reactive load is by suhr.

Get the Suhr Reactive Load and an IR Loader pedal instead of the Live.

AMT Pangea, LOGIDY OR TORPEDO CAB
The AMT will release a new pedal soon, so watch out.

thanks this looks like a good solution for head -> loadbox -> IR Loader
or
amplifire pedal -> ir loader

 Holy crap I stayed up late last night trying to understand the whole IR thing. I had no idea how involved it could be or even how awesome it could sound. I was gassing for the Torpedo Live due to its all in one simplicity but after learning about reactive loads vs resistant loads I think I need to learn more before pulling the trigger.

Is there a good resource online to learn more about using a DI/load box and IR's? Now I'm looking at the Two Tones Torpedo Reload as well vs the Suhr Reload box. This stuff is eye opening to say the least. So in a nutshell this is what I picked up.. its goes amp -> DI/Loadbox -> Virtual cab pedal -> DAW interface -> DAW OR amp -> DI/Loadbox -> DAW interface -> Virtual cab software -> DAW?

not exactly. If you have a DAW then you dont need a IR loader pedal.
you go amp->Suhr reactive load->Line Out of the Reactive Load into DAW
Inside the DAW you load the IR files (you need an IRloader)
when you play live without a DAW, than you need an IR hardware pedal where you load the IR files into.
you go amp->Suhr reactive load->Line Out of the Reactive Load into IR loader pedal->mixing console

Look, if you have a DAW already and a monitoring speaker system just trust me and buy the Suhr reactive load, try it out and go from there. Dont try to understand everything at once. The Torpedo Live is all in one package but the Suhr is the better unit.

I have the Torpedo Live. I tried the Suhr unit as well with some IRs. I didn't like it as much. It's a great unit but I'm happy with what I have. The cabs that you can purchase are outstanding.

For me, the Live serves so many purposes for me all in one unit for recording and practicing late at night, and playing live via FOH instead of micing. Fantastic unit and I don't need to rely on the computer to make changes on the fly when playing live. One speaker cable in and out via TRS cable to xlr on the board. Simple and done.

The Torpedo Live is plain awesome. Anything else will be different but perhaps not necessarily better nor worse. I use the Torpedo Live for convenience. Everything is in one package. And I can use either a preamp with it, or an amplifier.

As an example of how well it works, I just released a video on guitar textures. And I'm using a Mesa Tri-Axis preamp into the Torpedo Live. I use the Power Amp sim, a Two Notes Fender cab with a ribbon mic. I was quite happy with the tone I was getting from the Two notes. The Reverb effect you hear is from a Lexicon MPX 1.

Has anyone compared the Torpedo Live to the Power Station, for silent recording/load box purposes?

It has inboard digital effects (delay, reverb, eq, phaser) midi, headphones. A great unit.

I've compared the Live vs. the Power Station. If comparing the loads only, the Power Station is better. Set the Power Station's load switches to Deep/Edge.

Of course, the Torpedo Live has IRs built in which makes it an excellent all-in-one load+IR unit. But comparing just their loads, the Power Station wins.

Thanks again, I finally get it... going to order the Suhr and try it with the Wall of Sound pluggin I keep reading about.

Honestly the Torpedo Live sucked imo. Tube amps were not made to be played through software emulation, just a waste of energy if you ask me. Doesn't sound like your amp one bit. I sold it to someone in a country that uses 240V and the unit is suppose to be World Mains. The power supply crapped out, there is no fuse to protect the unit. No thanks.

thats a good choice. i run the exact same setup. Plug the Suhr Line Out signal into a HiZ input of your preamp, at least 10kOhm but the higher the better. I use the HiZ Input of my Great River Preamp.
Or just read this
https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index. ... e.1689880/

Man this unit is the shit, and i was trying everything on this planet, it wont get really better. I guess real micing of real cabinets in well treated rooms might be better, but you need a studio for that setup. And just remember that this is a studio setup with small monitor speakers, so you wont get the punch in your chest as from a real guitar cabinet.

Yes all good if you think the Torpedo Live sucks. But make sure your comparison is accurate. If you are comparing the sound out of the Torpedo to the sound of sitting next to your amp and speaker cabinet, it will NOT be the same. Most people who have responded here seem to be aware, but I have to state this. The Torpedo has the sound of a mic'ed up cab. It does not reproduce the sound you hear when you are sitting in the room with the amp.

My opinion on the Torpedo Live??? F*&kin love it!!!!

I've owned the Torpedo Reload for about 4 months and had the Torpedo Live at home for about a month. I sold the Torpedo Reload because I get better and more natural sounds (less digital and more breathing) when using the send of my amp straight into the RME Babyface. I use the Two-Notes WoS III, mainly with Ownhammer IR's but I also use the Two-Notes IR's from time to time.

So I finally got my Suhr Reactive load (long story) and am ready to get nuts experimenting. I have the Wall of Sound plugin with the 2 cabs it came with (free) and was wondering if anyone could recommend some good cabs to purchase for metal/thrash/jug jug jug stuff?

I know of the Ownhammer cabs and will probably grab a few of those. I was wondering if anyone has ever used Recabinet 5 by Kazog? Also I read that Pete Thorn uses a IR plugin called Mellowmuse IR1A which I can't seem to find a whole lot about from googling. I see they advertise "CPU efficient zero latency convolution" which sounds pretty good to me. Please drop a line if you have tips/advice with IR plugins. Thanks!
