Great score!

GC has deals sometimes, you just get lucky.

Six years ago I scored my deal of a lifetime on a 1969 Marshall Plexi for $2,000.00. Lots of red dots and original iron. When the GC in Austin shipped it to me,
it came with a signed letter that it was previously owned by Eric Johnson.

It was also shipped impeccably.

I wouldn't hesitate to jump all over any crazy deals at GC.

It was about two weeks for thee last amp I got from GC used shipped to my local store.

The first amp was messed up so they got me as other one. That was a other two weeks.

It's worth it to have the 45 day return.

I’d never suggest removing tubes. They’re safer right in the amp.

I agree. I’ve never had any issues with tubes arriving broken when shipping or receiving an amp. Any manufacturer shops with tubes in place too, so that’s always worked for me.

Depends on how tight the pin sockets are. I've bought amps that previous owners must have swapped tubes like crazy, or the sockets terminals were just loose from the factory from the get go. Maybe they were just poor quality sockets :dunno:

In one case the amp arrived with tubes installed and one or more power tubes were smashed to pieces inside the amp. A Splawn I bought last year arrived with a power tube that had the glass 75% separated from the base. Found that out when it redplated. When I checked it after it redplated, you could wiggle all the power tubes around in the socket despite them all having spring retainer clips on top of the tube. The rattling in shipping caused the breakage. Tightend all the individual socket terminals and problem solved.

New amps ship with tubes installed, but the tube sockets are more than likely tighter than a frog's arse cause they're new which greatly reduces the chance tubes will rattle loose in shipping. People start swapping tubes and the individual pin receptacles in the socket start opening up and spreading increasing the odds a tube will rattle loose during shipping.

I've shipped and received quite a few amps and have been fairly lucky. Never used to worry about pulling tubes. But a few recent incidence have led me to pull tubes, wrap em in bubble wrap, and secure them back inside the amp for shipping.

YMMV :D

I shipped an amp about 5 years back and when it arrived, the guy told me a couple of the tubes were busted. I sent him some spare tubes that I had, but from then on, I always ask the buyer/trader. That way, it's their choice.

What do you guys think about having a MF/GC/ used sticky? Can toss some deals down to the wolves? Could be a cool thing for the forum brothers.

Yes.. a sticky or even a separate section in the forum. May be easier to search using a subsection vs a sticky...but either would great

How about a thread for deals in general ?

Let's see what the mods think. Could be an awesome thing for all involved. The only rule I could think of is "No Personal FS/FT posts".

We could post them in the classified.... But we would need a way to mark them so they are different from personal ads.

Yeah Craigslist nuggets or crazy sales, etc...that’d be pretty useful.

Update.
Amp arrived today.

So for posterity sake, it's:
Ordered and paid on Saturday March 23.
Label Created 03/28/2019 1:22 P.M.
Arrived Wednesday April 3.

2 boxes; 1 for the amps and 1 for the tubes. They packed it really well, there must be a shortage of bubblewrap in California now because it's all in Georgia now, well done. Tubes were all individually wrapped and labelled, the inside of the amp was labelled 1 thru 9 to show where the tubes were. I must say nice job all around in a world where shipping is sketchy sometimes.

Amp sounds great, everything seems to work fine, a little dirty and a few scratches, but pretty damn good. My FIRST Fryette/VHT amp and it's one that I've wanted forever. I spent about 30 minutes with it, so many options and switches, they all sound good, just different. Pretty cool.

It fits right in with the others, doesn't seem intimidated or anything
