Gear flippers, are they bad?

People can buy and sell all they want, I don't see a problem with that. That being said, I don't put much stock in a known gear flipper's opinion on an amp.

There are a few that I listen to but I have known them for years and have met them and have seen them play.

The number is small though.

Normally couldn't care less...once I'm done with it, I'm done....the exception (for me) would be if I gave a friend the "buddy" price, and they instantly flipped it at a profit without offering it back to me (assuming they didn't dig it).
Now this would piss me off.

Note to self: Always offer gear back to Gary and El Pinche Huero.

I recall a "backflip" to El Pinche before it ever made it into a box.....

hey its their money and the are free to do whatever they want to with their money.

I don't really have a problem with it but I honestly hate to see the flippers snag gear from other buyers who would keep and play for years to a guy who buys it with sole intention to turn for a profit. In that regard it sucks. We typically list things for sale at fair or below market prices to keep it in the family. Dudes buying only to resell later for a profit to me is taking a bit of advantage of the system. Its different if they're buying gear and not liking it but flippers buy and dont really even try it, its just inventory to make a buck off of.

Profit and flipping don't really belong in the same sentence.....

Flippers usually don't bother me. The guys I don't like are the ones that border on being con men, always trying to talk a price lower when buying then selling high and acting like they're doing you a favor and giving you a "great deal". I had one guy on another forum cry to me that he really really wanted the pickups I was selling for his main axe blah blah blah was on a budget blah blah so I was nice and cut him a break on the price. Two days after he received them the guy had them re-listed for substantially more than he paid for them. I've talked to the same guy about stuff he was selling and received a bullshit song and dance that the ridiculously high price he was asking (near new for a used instrument) was actually a great deal blah blah blah when I saw the thread he originally bought from a week before for MUCH less than he was selling for. Fuck those guys. I've basically got a list of guys that are just gear hustlers and I don't even talk to them when buying or selling.

Right

The title should be "Are resellers bad?"

OP...If you sold to the guy the the guy I think you did, and didn't realize your guitar would be for sale again shortly, I'm not sure what to say.....

It would be like selling something to GC (who also chisel), then being pissed they were asking more than they paid...it's clearly a side business for some.

Profit?? What the hell is that?? I've lost my ass flipping gear....Yes...I'm a gear flipper. Anyone making a profit
is not a gear flipper....they are called a pawn shop..
To be honest...if someone scores something on the cheap and can make a few bucks reselling it...Good for them but if that same person grinds your tit's off or plays the buddy card to get whatever it might be on the cheap to resell to make a few bucks...fuck them..

Oddly enough, this is happening to me currently

I sold a beautiful 2011 R7 (that I got in a three way trade) on ebay; I set my minimum price at $2300 (which I thought was fair) and it sold to a very nice local guy (through ebay) for exactly that...dude came and picked up the guitar, and seemed stoked.

Fast forward a few days, and the guitar is for sale on TGP for $2600, using the exact verbiage from my ebay ad :D

Now I don't know if dude decided he didn't dig it, or thought that was a good opportunity for a profit, but for my money, if someone is willing to go to the trouble of driving 70 miles to make a deal, market the item, deal with tire kickers, and then have to ship the item for a net of $100, then they can have at it....I just don't have that kind of time or patience...I'll take the fast, easy deal every single time :D

Me too...quick easy and painless. I really don't care what anybody does with the gear they buy from me. I usually just want it gone and have no need for it so..usually priced to move fast....I gotta quit selling VHT 2150's for $800.00 though....lol!!

They are a plague in the music community......
If you are worried about what people do with something after you sell it maybe you should not sell it ? There is people all over internet & world that do what is described in the first post with all kinds of things for a living.
Anyone that pinches you on the price of a idiom you are selling is a waste of time in my experience. Not the normal stuff to negotiate a price....

When I was buying/selling/trading amps like a madman....I never thought of doing it for a profit. For me personally I just wanted to check out the amps every one 'raved' about.
I sold them or traded them off when they hit the bricks for equal or less then what I paid for it. Not going to sit on something that I didnt want to make that extra $25 bucks. Just not worth it for me. ;)

+1

Lately it seems it's the private music shops that nickel and dime you and then relist it on eBay for more. Don't really care though. No point getting butthurt over it. But trying to flip gear
For a profit now is pretty much non existent. Just because it's listed more doesn't mean it's going to sell.

Flippers don't bother me, with the exception of a small minority it's just hard to take their opinions seriously because they tend to be overly fabricated.

Best <insert here> ever! As soon as item sells all of a sudden it isn't such a great piece of gear anymore.
