If I get a hddvd player I also get another $300 off. I love sears.
Somebody didn't follow CES. HD DVD's nearly dead already.

Vizio is blahhhh, they're like the Kia of cars if you know what I mean... plus it being a plasma at that cheap tells me it's going to be a worse picture than you think. Plasma doesn't mean it's automatically better. Have you even looked at this thing in person? Checked it's features?

Good call. I saw some Plasmas at Best Buy that had a worse picture than my SD 27" JVC! I want a Panasonic TH-50PZ750U. They look nice.

In the future, try to refrain from buying from a big-box store. The TV's are never set up for their best viewing. And usually the sales people have an extremely limited knowledge of what their talking about. You can if you want to, it's ultimately up to you. I think a specialty store will provide better service and a better demo unit.

not as good as a samsung but pretty good. With the deal they had going the PS3 qualified as a blue ray player so I was able to get a 40gig PS3 for $39.

My parents have a Vizio and the picture on it is just fine. My job puts me in front of peoples tv's every day so I get a pretty good idea of which ones are overrated, and for the money Vizio is a good buy. The only negative to Vizio is their cheap remote. I would recommend picking up a Harmony 880 universal. Absolutely an awesome remote.

Just make sure you calibrate it.
I cant get over the amount of people that buy a HD TV and just plug it in.

Little info: there is a reason the expensive TVs always look better than the cheaper ones in the store, they only calibrate the expensive models to make them look better ;)

A calibration disc is a great investment.

how do you calibrate one jc?

There are lots of discs out there.
It is just a DVD that runs you through like 100 steps/tests to setup all the colors, balances, contrasts, etc.
I bought this one:
http://www.ovationmultimedia.com/avia.html
I think it was about 100$.

But there are a lot more for a lot less. I went on info i got from the AV geeks on the AVS forums and a local specialty shop.

The more tests, the better, but also the more expensive the discs.
I made my money back on it though, i charge people (friends family) like 5-10$ to calibrate. It takes about 1.5 hours. But it is like night and day.

I'd normally offer to send you a copy, but the Avia comes with special color screens that you hold up to your eyes :(

Also keep in mind that there are some settings/adjustments that the normal user remote can not do. You have to have a service remote to have access to those settings.

:)

Avoid the plasmas....they're a dying technology (you'll thank me 5 years from now)....spend the xtra $$$ and get a Samsung LCD.

Most of them are basic from the TV menu. I've used it on everything from Sharps, Sony, Panasonic, Smansung, Hitachi, Olevia, ... both LCD and Plasma

I have found that the LCDs always have a few more adjustments.
But they also need the most adjustments from factory.

+1

My Panny AE700 has a submenu that has to be accessed via remote with a secret code.

My TV is a LG rear-projection DLP and it has all kinds of service menu adjustments. I suppose they are all a bit different. I really like the DLP picture, but I hate having to replace the lamp every couple years, as my wife and daughter are TV fanatics!!

DLPs are nice. There were a few really nice DLPs at CES this year.
Even though i am kind of a AV geek, i am in no way a fanboy of whichever technology.
DLP, LCD, Plasma, who cares. As long as the picture is great and the price is right

I do however, prefer LCD for games.

I think the DLPs are improving as well. Now they are using LEDs in place of the lamps that burn out and they are getting rid of the color wheel technology. I wonder how long the LEDs will last??

I think for my next TV, hopefully this Summer, I'll look at another DLP or a LCD. Though the LCD TVs are still pretty expensive. I guess I'll just have to check them all out and see what looks best. The technology is changing so fast!!

Well, if they last like normal LEDs, that's about 80,000-100,000 hours.
That's a lot of TV mang!

I agree about the technology changing too fast. Whatever you buy today is pretty much 'old tech' in about 3 months :D
