Getting tired of searching for a high gain head. Need halp.

I liked the cleans on the Herbert, and the low gain stuff was cool. But, I didn't care for the high gain stuff at all. It was very compressed feeling, tight on the low end but very tubby, and the high end had the sort of "mastered" or processed sound, as if the high end was rolled off. Obviously not everyone feels that way. YMMV.

Larry Rock Wizard, the three channel amp, that does it all. Unfortunately VERY rare.

Wizard MC2: only two channels, but the drive channels are to die for.

You said you liked the BE, but it was too polished (which I agree, but like): the 2016 version should have fixed that, but I don't have personal experience with it.

Hasn't the OP now got a SLO as his avatar contains soldano SLO ?

The Engl Invader 150 or 100 should cover all that and then some. One of the best amps out there imho. I own the 150, amazing amp!

Save a ton of cash and get a JSX. It does everything you're looking for in spades, and does it well. Everybody here will recommend all these high end, expensive amps, but I learned a long time ago, good tone doesn't have to cost a fortune, and I wouldn't thumb my nose up at the Peavey. I would also highly recommend an Engl Retro Tube, or JVM.

Might want to scoop up an early rev Dual Rec and give it a try. Clean is usable, and the rest is an encyclopedia of distortion tones from vintage od to brutal high gain. Plus, you can get your investment back easily enough if it's not your thing.

Good Luck,

Russ

True yes, haven't been here for a few weeks.
Great replies everyone, thanks!
I ended up with a SLO - Exactly the tone I was after.
