So.
I've been trying different pickups lately for my new Silverburst and I've been using my Standard as a test dummy for my Custom.
Silverburst has stock 498t. I'm leaning towards a MCP Warcry, but I am still considering everything...

Today I decided to install a WB HELL bridge pickup into my Wine Red Standard Les Paul, and I tried it in a few different amps, but decided to shoot some short clips using the Mark V.
used 2 different guitars, I know, but to me, the standard sounded somewhat similar, bright and screechy, when it had a 498t in there as well...so I figured if it sounds good in there, it will sound great in the Custom.
I used 2 different modes on the Mark V, however, is sounds as if I had both modes dialed in a little too trebly.
1st is ch.3 Extreme
2nd is Ch.2 Crunch
Not sure the differences come across too well on the video, but they do sound totally different in person.

Man,the 498 sounds good, the WB sounds good but looser on low maybe rounder and cleaner maybe, but it sounded quiter as I see you changed the cam position a little too :dunno: I'm listening on my Sony headphones right now also.I have a set of WarCrys sittin here if you would like to know for sure :D just a loaner tho

$150 for a new nickel bridge warcry...it's a bit much at the moment.
i was going to order it today, it was on the website for $120. i bought it, then he refunded my money, as with the nickel cover it is $150 + shipping too.

sheesh.

yeah the WB sounds a little loose on the bottom end, but less harsh on the top end. more like your Cantrell, but less treble.
almost like a JB with more punch and volume. slightly muted. more raw though.
I kind of like it, but I'm having issues with the bottom end.

btw, i tried the WB with Drop D, and I think that is it's ticket to fame.
Sounded great downtuned.

For Standard tuning, might have to keep looking.

If you like the JB type tone, try a Suhr Aldrich. JB x 100 = Aldrich

If you're finding the stock pickup too bright, try rolling the guitar's tone pot down.

if you ever want to sell that WB hell... I call dibs! Hook me up!

Not mine.
yet.

I'll pass on the info.
maybe.
:D

I'm actually working on a new Pickup shootout at the moment...
This time, I am miking the cab though...to get a real perspective rather than this crappy video which does not represent the proper tone.
I'll post it all when I am finished, but for now...
So far, I have:
WB Hell (as in this video, very beefy on the low end, not bright, kind of raw and loose.
Wolftone Marshallhead (very bright. very tight. reminded me a little of the 498t, albeit much better. much less low end compared to WB Hell. although not as much low end as the Suhr SSH. not too bad. very vintage sounding).
Suhr SSH (very similar to the Marshallhead. Perhaps a little tighter, and crunchier. more bass than the Wolftone. a little bright. I can see how the Aldrich must be a good pickup, as this pickup sounds very nice, but a little brighter than what I am looking for). very balanced for a vintage sounding pickup.
Next up will be a Bare Knuckles Nailbomb, and maybe a Duncan El Diablo.
Just need to figure out some wiring.

Like I said, I'll put it all together and make a video of it later. right now I am recording wav's to edit together later.

good stuff... let me know whenever you decide. Cant wait to hear the pickup shootout, thanks for doing it!
