Yep mines a 2001 CLassic. it does have the "Aged" inlays, but I grabbed it cause it plays great! and it's got an almost butterscotch tinted Honeyburst. It really compliments the inlays makes em look right, like it's aged. It's weight releived, but weighs like a Mofo anyway! heavy fucker...
I'll post a pic tonight...

Said I would...

T-Top Neck, SH14 bridge...

Russian and Mullard caps...

Heavy fucker, one piece top...

That LP Steve had for sale was really a good one. Not sure why it sat so long.

It had a few great things going for it:

Maple neck

Solid body - no weight relief or chambers

Had the highly desirable Tim Shaw pickups that alone sell for 300-500 used. And it had $$ Motor City pups added....

30 year old tone wood.

From the last 3 digits of the serial number, it was built in Nashville where they were really trying to make a name for themselves in 81 as a better build shop.

I would look for an older road worn player that is functionally sound and work from there on pickups, pots, caps, misc bullshit that personalizes the guitar.

If it is after 1981, you are gonna pay coin for a nice reissue to get a SOLID mahogany body. I love an amazing top and have a few Dentist guitars I don't want to get scuffed. And a pretty Betty is indeed amazing to have, but for a no BS straight up player that you won't freak if it gets another scratch or some beer spilled on it, an old LP is hard to beat.

Before spending money on an old LP, I would say take a month to play a bunch and do some serious forum scouring.

And the wine colored LP is usually cheapest....

Good luck on finding a keeper on the cheap.
