Not really. That is way too generalized of a statement. Here are some very classic models are some very fair prices for excellent guitars. I left out Les Pauls, because quite frankly there are too many models to pick from, and I don't know what you consider expensive. They are also extremely popular so market demand will of course increase price. Why should they sell cheaper. That said, LP Standard Traditionals start at around $1899. I don't even know what those are. I tend to buy used anyway, because like cars everything loses value once it leaves the showroom floor. I might as well take advantage of that

Im shocked nobody mentioned that the price of 7k is msrp and not the prices dealers will sell it for, usually gibson dealers will take 40 to 45% off msrp, gibson has lots of markup in their products and always has. U should be able to get a vos version for around 4200 to 4500 if you know a decent dealer.

gc is asking 5k for the vos that has the 7k msrp, gc is asking 7k for aged version that has a mrsp of 9880.

Im glad they made the new pickup for this guitar, also has the volute on the neck and 3piece pancake body. I think they will sound better than half the guitars made in the 70s norlin era.

I dont want one but i think its a cool guitar.

Why are you shocked? It is irrelevant, when you can actually buy a real one for less money then the retail price would be with ANY discount. You could always hope to find a deal like this

Price is insane, but not as bad as the recent Jackson relic Rhoads ($12K).

I'd love to have one of these but I already enough RR fanboy furniture ;) :

At least that Jackson is a special, historical guitar that is significant to RR. True, RR, had a white LPC that he played religiously....but tons of white/cream LPC are out there. They had to create that Jackson for him, and recreate that guitar for that run...yeah 12K is crazy...but relatively speaking, I think what Gibson is asking is crazier....for what they are giving.

Most of the 70s les pauls ive played in the last 15 yrs wasnt very good. Maybe 1 or 2 i liked but that was it. I would much rather have a new thru the custom shop than most of the old ones i played. Now im sure theres dogs in both new and old ones but 70s norlins arent known as the great lesters and alot of people buy them because they want something vintage at a price they can afford. Im not saying all of them suck but theres plenty that do.

lol - also because the price of les pauls is so grossly inflated on the name alone that it would ruin the whole point you're trying to make right? lol
the ones you listed are still overpriced in my opinion. just because of the name on the headstock. other companies make comparable/if not better products for less money. you can keep buying gibsons and being proud of that headstock all you want to i'll never buy another one lol.

They show a pic of Randy with his Les Paul Custom in the slightly off white color that it had become by 1981 or 1982 and then show a pic of the Randy signature Les Paul in this very yellowed color that is what his guitar probably looks like today, 28 years after he stopped playing it. The color is a total fail.

:bleh: Yep.

if i recall correctly they actually released an epiphone les paul custom exactly like this a few years ago in an aged white/cream color. with regular gibson p/u's though. it was for like one or two years.
i wanted to buy that one actually, but it was more like 700 - not 7,000 lol.
probably be hard pressed to tell a big difference in the two as well lol.

I think that Jackson is more Randy then the Les Paul, and you KNOW the Jackson was handmade. I'd rather have the Jackson, you can make the Les Paul anytime you want, can't make that RR-1

So what? You don't have to like them. My point is that they these particular guitars are not very expensive. Your initial argument is that they are OVERPRICED to begin with...but that is just not true with all of their models. You are clearly biased against them. As for me, I am far from a Gibson fanboi. I have never bought a new Gibson, and don't see myself buying one anytime soon, but that is because I tend to buy used instruments. That said, a lot of their guitars come with lifetime warranties, which you have to factor in to their "overpricing...  " I mean $1100 for a brand new SG is a pretty damn good deal for a Standard. I have owned $3k guitars that weren't better and simply didn't have the mojo. So, in summation, are they the best? No...there is no best. Do you have to like them, no...WGAS what you like. Are they all overpriced? Hell no.

$2000 to age it, I totally think that is a well thought out pricing point.

Now that I am thinking the last three things that I have bought..............

78 JMP 50 watter = $600
Bogner 2x12 = $575
Charvel green meanie = $900

$2075

That murphy asshat can suck it

I've got a '75 that looks a lot like that. Heavy sucker.

Said it before and will say it again, signature models (that above and beyond "being" a Les Paul as such) do nothing for me... In fact, I avoid them always. I don't want some other guitarist's name, insignia, initials, or beat-to-shit road worn look on my ax - I'll do that myself thank you very much.

I have nothing but HUGE respect and admiration for the offerings of Randy Rhoads - he was the one cat that got me into guitar at such a young age - I thought he was incredible... To this day? I still think of him in the ranks of all guitar gods past and present. I just hope Gibson pays his surviving family some decent royalties for this blatant money grab.

Peace,
V.
Hell yeah agree 100% on everything. Cant stand sig amp and guitars.

+1 on never wanting a signature instrument. (how UNoriginal it would feel pulling it out at a gig)
+1 on appreciating Gibson having some great stuff out at a fair price if you ignore nostalgic museum pieces.
+1 on that being a Sexy Marshall in that pic up there! Wow!.....

Word.

As for the above message:
+1
+1
+1...but correct me if I'm wrong, I think that sexy Marshall IS the Randy Rhoads model, no?? Like the signature reissue?

Peace,
V.

I see the Norlin era Gibson's catch a lot of flack, but they seemed to work OK for Rhoads, Sykes and Zakk. Imagine this. Those guys might have "made it" and had careers if they could have only gotten their hands on good Les Pauls and not that useless Norlin crap they ended up with. If only the Les Paul forum guys could have helped those guys find real guitars.
