Hang on, I need @DanTravis62 opinion on Gibson paint jobs before watching a video about why Gibson prices aren't the problem.
 
I thought QC was the issue at Gibson. 1-2 years ago I purchased a new '61 SG Standard in white. My first new Gibson in decades. The fit, finish, everything about it was close to perfect; played well, sounded good, stayed in tune, no dead spots, no workmanship issues. I'd say close to flawless. Renewed my respect.

I did sell it because I wasn't using it much, and I also bought a Epi 63 Les Paul Custom SG, the Gibson version was $6500+
