Give me the low down on Voodoo Amps

I have a VRock 10w combo. It sounds great through any cabinet, but just running as a combo is kind of meh. Tried several speakers, etc. Through my Avatar closed back wide 1X12 it sounds great.

If you want a brand-new Voodoo-"Jose" modded amp, why not just get one of his V-Plex or V-Rock models?

Actually, I am more in the market for picking up a used 5150 Block and having it sent to Voodoo for general maintenance and component upgrades, completely stock circuit. Now that I am hearing some of the clips though, I think a Voodoo Jose Marshall may be in my future for sure

Well I've never heard or played their amps in person but I did buy some cables from them a few years ago. Within the past few months a couple started going to shit. They are supposed to have a lifetime warranty so I contacted them about replacing or repairing them. After taking quite awhile to get back to me, they told me I could send them in on my dime and "maybe" they would repair them, maybe not. I decided not to send them in so they are pretty much worthless to me now. I can't see spending $10 and the hassle of shipping them for a "maybe". I can almost buy a new one from them for that. It's not a big deal but it kind of left a sour taste in my mouth and I'd definitely think twice before spending my money there. FWIW, I don't recall ever hearing anything else negative about them.

Did you talk to Trace? That doesn't sound right at all. They are about as responsive as you can get. He will spend as much time as you want to resolve any issues. Or if you want to just talk amps. He did an Ampeg VL 502 and it sounds great.

Whats the difference between the Hex and V-Rock??? Does the Hex have more gain?? I'm trying to decide between either a Dual Lead V-Rock/Hex or a Single Lead V-Rock with the Rock/Brutal mod....

The V-Rock is based on Trace's HG Jose while the Hex is more like Trace's version of a Modern Marshall so it has more extended lows than the V-Rock. I have the dual lead V-Rock which doesn't have as much gain or sound as thick as the single channel. It's been a while since I've played a Hex but I'm betting it has more gain the dual lead V-Rock, but not as much as the single channel with the Brutal/Rock mod.

After watching a few clips from the NY amp show 2010 where the 2 channel V-Rock had the gain dimed and I wanted more gain than that without having to boost it... So I figured the rock/brutal mod or Hex should be ok for me.... but I'm gonna talk to trace and see what he has to say.

DEWD called yesterday (12-02-10) after hours and left a message on our answer service. As I could not make out the name of city or the gentleman’s last name and I placed a call earlier this morning and left a message. Upon further research we found that a RMA (RA#042010BG) was issued and emailed on April 19th 2010 for the return of the cables for inspection/repair. Though we did not receive the cables the RMA Form did contain the missing information required to generate a UPS shipping label.

The original cables were two (2) V20/20 10ft instrument cables and we an affordable option to the pro V50/50 series. The V20/20 series was discontinued circa 3.5 years ago as the price of the wire went up to the point where it was very close in price to our V50/50 series.

As such we are shipping the following; one (1) V50/50 8FT cable and one (1) V50/50-20FT cable (Reg $48.90). Additionally we have put together a care-package of various different picks, other cables, 10 sets of strings and other accessories totaling $150.00. The package is scheduled to be picked up today/12-03-10 by 5pm EST via UPS. Tracking# 1Z576Y1A4250574842.

Trace recently worked on an amp of mine and I can't say enough good things about him and his work. I am certainly not a professional when it comes to music and equipment but every time I had a conversation with Trace he was very down to earth and overly helpful. The turn around time on his work is excellent and all I can say is that he went above and beyond with what I wanted done, including taking care of some minor issues with the amp that he identified on his own. I would not hesitate one second to due future business with him and his company!!
