Here's the details:

Tuesday 4/11
1. Approached seller to purchase one guitar.
2. Seller replies, and says, he's interested in working a deal.
3. Discuss prices, and then he says he has another guitar, so we discuss a package deal.
4. Came to an agreement on price.
5. I paid immediately after we agreed.
6. He said he would go to the studio over the weekend to pack them up and send out Monday 4/17.
7. I replied that was okay, and that I was SUPER STOKED to make this deal.

Monday 4/17
1. Emailed seller to see if he had tracking information for me.
2. He replied that he "got to the shop late today and found out he was out of boxes. If the boxes show up I'll get rates for Fedex and USPS and we can go from there. Talk tomorrow."

Tuesday 4/18
1. No communication from seller.

Wednesday 4/19
1. Emailed seller - how are things coming along with getting the guitars shipped?
2. "He is trying. Lots of orders and customers today - will stay in touch"
3. My thought - 1) who is "he"? 2) Am I not a "customer" at this point? 3) "will stay in touch" - NO SHIT you'll stay in touch!! You have $3300 of my money in your pocket! That doesn't answer my question!
4. Email to seller - tomorrow will be a week since I paid you. I'm trying to be patient, but you're sitting on $3300, which is not exactly a small sum of money, and all I have is "will stay in touch". Can you please give me a date that they will ship? You would expect the same if you were on my end. Thanks.
5. No return email from seller.
6. Realize I paid him 8 days ago - emailed again and simply mentioned that tomorrow will actually be 9 days since I paid you.

Thursday 4/20
1. Checked email. Nothing.

I want the guitars, and I am selling some stuff to off-set the cost, but I'm just not having a good feeling. Thinking of emailing and saying I need tracking details by tomorrow, or I would like a refund. Sucks, but I hate tainted deals.

Am I out of line here?
not at all. not only is he taking way too long, he is also not delivering on what he told you.

Why did it take a week to find out he was out of boxes? That is lame. If an agreement was made to get it packed and shipped right after being packed up on the weekend, get the shit sent out. :aww:

Sent him another email - tracking or refund today by the time I get home from work, and by tracking, I mean that they are in the hands of the shipper, not just a label printed. If not, I'll contact PP and get that rolling.

Told him that when I give him $3300, I become a "customer". (He sells fishing reels for a living I think...)
Told him I was being more than accommodating by waiting until Monday, even though I should have been told that prior to sending him the money. Also said that if someone says they'll contact me, I shouldn't have to initiate the contact.
If I'm selling something, I should have it ready to box and ship by the next day.
If I'm sitting on that kind of money, that should become a priority to deliver.

Sigh... I can't believe I should have to explain this to a grown man in his 60's.

BTW - the seller is not a member here, so don't get upset that I'm not disclosing...nobody here to "out".

I would have been raising hell 8 days ago....but that is me. You sell something you ship it and it is ready to go out immediately. Anything else is unacceptable in my book.
Jesus christ
I agree the seller should have shipped by now and been in more contact, but between this and the other thread, i can see some of you are quite ridiculous. A lot of people who sell used gear are average people and i know for a fact i have taken a couple days to ship before. I mean, i always communicate these things and 9 days is a bit much, but come on.
Ok. After reading your post I see you didn't mean it like I took it..that the 'next day shipping' is maybe also over the top? In that case I agree sometimes it takes a few days.

It seemed like you were saying it was 'ok' to take your time in responding, or in sending anything at all.
But I didn't read your original post, just the quoted one that included it.
My apologies.

It's this type of shit and other shit that has made me want to buy new or only deal with my trusted brothers (which most of you are).

no worries man. yeah, it was "if you sell it it goes out immediately or its unacceptable" attitude that seems pretty unreasonable considering most of our private sales are between regular working humans, not gear dealers. The OP in each thread are totally reasonable and too patient, I would have my pitchfork out after a week too

You have more time before you need to file a PayPal dispute. If you want the guitars, it sucks but I'd just wait. If you'd rather free up the money for something else, then filing the dispute makes sense.

Dude would have shipped on Monday, or it was a guy I knew I could trust no problem.

Random guy, no references from here or the other forums and it didn't go out when he said it would? PP claim filed immediately. Guitars are not worth my state of mind when $3300 goes out the door and hassle begins.

You were perfectly patient and the emails weren't out of line. Fuck this guy, get your $ back before it becomes even more of a hassle.

I'll ask people what they want to do as far as shipping goes if they buy something from me and it's susceptible to weather changes like a guitar, and I don't want it to sit in UPS's hands all weekend or whatever. Everything else, pickups, pedals, whatever....all goes out next day with shipping and I stay in contact until they receive whatever they bought.

You got something up for sale, you should be ready to ship it. I don't wanna hear shit about how you need 9 days to find a box or go to the PO. If it takes you 9 days to do these things, you shouldn't have listed it for sale; I get that life gets in the way sometimes but 9 days to accomplish simple tasks like this means you're a moron.

I'd be fuckin PISSED right now.

What's the typical fishing rod order? $5000? This is a priority sale for him. He is unreliable with respect to shipping. Can u rely on his representations regarding condition, etc? Refund and he can try to sell it on boattrader.com

File the claim. He is obviously screwing the pooch on this one. I ship within 48 hours of any sale. The 48 hours comes into play when it's Saturday, otherwise, next day. This is totally out of line. The zero responses are huge red flags.

what's the latest? refund or shipped?

That's some serious bullshit; request the refund, ASAP. Fuck the guitars.

On a side note, I sure as hell wish $3300 were three mortgage payments, in LA.
