anybody try one yet?

i like the Gold Lion power tubes! but paranoid the 12ax7 is just a EH with a deferent label and twice the price?

can't say anything about that, but I have really liked the power tubes I put in my amp from Gold lion. I heard the rebranded thing about them as well, but they sounded the best to me out of a few I tried. not cheap though but I say try it out!

This is what Jon and thetubestore.com have to say...

Gold Lion ECC83 / B759 - Yet another great tube from Russia and another in the line of large plate dual triodes. By my count we have the Sovtek 5751, Sovtek 12AX7 LPS, Mullard and now the Gold Lion brand. A quick glance and you might think they were all the same but careful inspection reveals physical differences in construction and plate coatings. Listening to these tubes reveals even greater differences.

It is very smooth and pleasing to the ear. I attribute this to the broad midrange response. In audio or guitar equipment, grating highs and booming lows will give you listening fatigue or make you think your amp just sucks. The Gold Lion’s voicing is such that the midrange response seems full, while the highs and lows are nicely controlled. This tube would be great if you are retubing one of those classic old radio consoles. It would also be great in a Marshall JCM800 series amp to tame the bright channel and cut some of the crazy high end.

The best news with the Gold Lion ECC83/B759 is that I couldn’t get one to feed back at major sound pressure levels in a combo guitar amp. Finally.

This tube in your first gain stage will deliver a most pleasant reproduction of your audio source or make your guitar amp sound warm with real creamy drive when pushed with hotter pickups.

NOTE: For those of you that love to take a pencil and whack hot tubes, you will be rewarded with a satisfying, loud, “PING”. It’s the nature of the beast with any large plate dual triode used in V1. If you get uncontrolled squealing at higher volume levels or if touching the amp causes a ringing noise you probably have a genuine microphonics problem. If you like to tap your tubes all the time to see if they are microphonic, you will likely cause a genuine microphonics problem.

Not sure, are the EHX's made in Russia?

My last order from Jon, he convinced me to try their new in-house preferred series 12AX7's. I tried them in my boutique 1x12, not bad, maybe a little brighter than the Mullards, Tung Sols, etc. but they're decent. Haven't tried them in any of my big heads yet. Might have to soon though, my VH4S is showing signs of some tube issues.

Peace,
V.

I love my Gold Lion KT77's in my Peters. They sound 3 times better than the JJ KT77. Of course they are more expensive but worth it to me. The Gold Lion KT88 is on par with the SED IMO. Can't say enough good stuff about the 77. :inlove: :inlove: They make the amp tighter and more focused to my ears. Have a huge hit on the bottom end.

Good stuff MR.V. Curious about the preamp stuff now too.

Capulin, what power tubes have you tried from them?

I keep saying these 77's are awesome. I put them in two amps and they are huge.  They are great in my Twin Jet as well. Tighter, punchier, more complex tone. Great highs.

 Good shit man. Glad to hear they work well in many different amps. I tried them in my old Dragon and they did wonders for that one too.

 I just looked up the price on the preamp tubes. Holy freakin crap......they better be good for that price. Someone else be the guinea pig. :D

don't tell Gold Lion, but SED's are allmost as high now!

i've been know to be full of shit, but as far as i know any tube made in Russia that's not a SED, comes from the Reflektor plant and is owned by EHX or atleast EHX is the money behind it.

i've bragged on the Gold Lion 77's for awhile now! people would allways say 77's suck, when in reality it's JJ 77's that suck, not all 77's!

i've tried Gold Lion 77, 66, and 88's, liked them all, and they share lots of tone characteristics through the line. if i had to pick a favorite of them, it would be the 77.

back to the 12AX7, i'm probably just paranoid, the GL looks really close to one of the EHX tubes, but it's not?

Yep. I've tried all of them. All good but the 77's in an El34 amp rule. I have a quad also in my 20th Ecstacy. They can handle much higher vots and current as well. I have a pair of the 12ax7's coming. They were $32.00 each. I'l post back with my thoughts in V1. I use Tesla e83cc silver pins now in all of my heads in the V1 slot. Not JJ. Old 32 code Rosnov.

holler when you get them Glip22.

i might just get and EH and GL, and give the look!

Thanks for the Gold Lion KT77 gas :gethim: I also have gas for the new JJ6CA7.
Dave, I really don't think you'll be dissapointed with the 77's in your Cameron. You have to be carefull who you buy them from. They hold together much better than the Winged C EL34's under volume. Allot of sellers do not know how to test them properly for higher plate volt matching and they can test as matched but when you put them in your amp they will not be. I know a dealer who charges less and knows how to test them right. They have to be matched as an EL34 at 500v. KT77 settings for matching call for 400v. This will not work. I just got a quad matched within 2ma.

All this tube talk is getting me horny for some new glass AGAIN

Who is your dealer?
I'm getting very picky who I get tubes from, I've gotten matched quads that were as much as 14ma apart :gethim:

Honestly, I've used quite a few dealers in the past. None compare to this one. www.tctubes.com Tyler and Chelsea Dearmond Can't say enough good about them. Tyler's service is just incredible. He warranties all of his tubes. burns them in for 48 hours before matching. I had two pairs of GE 6550's redplate on me. It was probably my amp's high voltage. He took them both back and offered me a refund or a credit. He's knowledgeable and replies with lenghty emails. His matching is excellent as well. If a tube drifts or gets noisy he replaces it. He keeps records of what he sends you so you won't have to rebias even if the brands are different. I had SED 6L6 in an amp and bought a pair of GE6L6. Them matched the SED's within 1/2 ma.

I worry about the tubes being able to handle 565 volts...which is what my CCV puts out. I may end up getting a test quad...but $176 is steep. :aww: I always look for a different tube sound.

i ran a pair of the Gold Lion KT-77's in my Elmwood M90, don't remember the volts anymore, but know it's higher than 565. the M90 is one of the hottest KT88 amps in current production.

Dave, The KT77's handle much higher plate voltage and screen current than an EL34.

Did some swapping in two different amps ( V1 only)with the GL 12ax7. I went back and forth with NOS Siemens triple mica and Tesla 32 Codes. I didn't get a whole lot of time but the GL's are still in V1 for further testing. Usually I will immediately put my NOS back in and be done with it. I have to say these are different from most of the new stuff I have tried. It is not a dark sounding tube. The mids are nice and punchy. Soundstage is present. The bass could be a little better, but from I have read the bass opens up after some break in time on these. Not harsh at all. Nice highs with no fizz. They are staying in for awhile. One thing is they are very quiet. Am I sorry I paid 70 bucks for two of them. Not yet. Of course everyones ear is different so I am sure there are some who may not like them. I'm not sure yet, but so far, so good I just may order another one.

Gold Lion tubes are expensive but based on trying the KT-88, 77 and 66....they all produce great tones.

I just paid $45 for an ax7..lets see how that pans out :-/
