Gold Lion tubes are expensive but based on trying the KT-88, 77 and 66....they all produce great tones.

I just paid $45 for an ax7..lets see how that pans out :-/
I really like the 77's.

Anyone tried these? http://thetubestore.com/tad7025s.html

The tube store offers a Prefferred version of this tube, not sure exactly what the difference is though.

I use Jon and his business all the time - awesome guy, great service, excellent return policy, no bullshit, good prices. If you want to know the difference between the Preferred Series and the Genalex/Gold Lion, email Jon at jon@thetubestore.com and he'll happily get back to you. Let him know Mo sent ya, he's a terrific cat and will take exceptional care of you. And no, i don't get kickbacks.

I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger on a big order of pre's, KT77s (thanks to the Shiva Pimp), and some 6550's. Glass time... Sigh.

Peace,
V.

i've seen that, but don't know anything about it.

somebody is allready selling what they claim is a Mullard, and it's a long plate?

did Mullard make long and short plates?

i've had a few of the so called long plate Mullard RI 12AX7's, and they're allright, but not any better than a Sovtek LP. i've used them in V1 some, but really anymore i'd rather have all short plates.

I agree. I use the Mullard RI as PI tubes. But this GL 12ax7 LP has something going on. I'm not completely sure yet.

Why not get in line for a quad of the loaners to try out?

I tried the Gold Lion AX7 in my Express clone and I liked it better than the Tung-Sol re-issue I had in there, but it was kicked out by a NOS Amperex.
I have in in V1 in my Laney GH-100 now. They're good sounding tubes , but a bit pricey. I'm curious to see if they last......

Damn im wondering how the 77's would sound with SED 6550'S in the bones. Im currently using 6550/El34 combo

That might be killer. You need the Gold Lions tested very specifically to match. Most dealers test them to the KT77 specs and they will never work at higher PV. I went through three quads and it was frustrating. The dealer I use now does them right. Those Tung Sol reissues died very quickly. I went through about six of them before I gave up.

It's a very kind and very fair offer, the only thing is, with my schedule, I can't commit to getting to know any one type of tube in a defined period of time. I just need to have them, and then spend serious time with them. If they don't work out, hey, I'll find another use for them or simply sell 'em off. But truth be told, even outside of the huge press you've personally given the GL-KT77's, I'm going with a quad to simply see if perfection can be improved upon with my 20thA XTC. Why not? I've got a couple other amps I can toss 'em in if they don't fit the Bogner :D

Peace,
V.

Mo, They will definitely fit the Bogner for sure. The question is will they fit Mojo? Just cause they fit me... They punch more with higher dissipation. I like punch. Doesn't mean you do

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^... I've taken bigger risks in my life

I'm cool with it, as mentioned, several other cats I know who know their glass have said similar things. I'm game for it, and ya know what? Worst case scenario, they blow in the 20thA XTC and they'll find a home in another amp. But if what you're saying and the others are saying is true?? I'll be happily intrigued.

The 20thA to me is a masterpiece - you've ALL heard me say this before... Where could I see some improvement? Maybe the clean channel being a little more crisp, less dark let's say?? Barely, though, I'm scratching the surface here peeps. And the Blue channel - kicks such SERIOUS ass in the past-noon MV arena, and with the boost, but the lower volumes, meh, it's not as much love. But I didn't buy this amp for 'bedroom level playing'

So ya man, KT77's - they've been suggested, I've tried out another set not that long ago but didn't have the time or energy to put into them, and this time around - especially knowing I have a 'thang' for Genalex/GT - I'm sure it'll be just dandy.

Peace,
V.

i think they'd be really good in the Bones, especially in a mix with something that pumps some bass.

i never got to try them, when i was messing around with a Bones. but i thought a pair of the Gold Lions and a pair of Tung-sol EL-34's would be really cool.
