ElectricVoodoo,

The statements you are making are 100% inaccurate. They are either made because you simply don't know or because you are attempting to start some sort of a silly rumor.

Dave Friedman and Bruce Egnater are life long friends. In fact almost all of the boutique amp builders/designers are friends. Egnater is Egnater and Friedman is Friedman. They are COMPLETELY separate companies even though we distribute both brands. We also distribute Bogner pedals, Morgan Amps, 65Amps, Synergy, Falbo and much more. So saying Friedman and Egnater are distributed by the same company is an accurate statement. Saying Egnater is making or designing for Friedman is utter nonsense.

So now:

1) Dave Friedman told you.
2) His partner Rob told you.
3) You are welcome to call Bruce Egnater and he will tell you.
4) I own Boutique Amps Distribution and I am telling you.

You can now either believe this or considering publishing your comments in the upcoming issue of "Conspiracy Weekly" - maybe it will get some traction there.

Where are your facts regarding Paul Rubens ?

Are you getting paid or something to just take potshots?

Throw some shit at the wall as facts, hope it sticks, get called on it, throw some other shit?

Great way to derail a thread about a particular amp

I started this thread because this clip and some of the clips of Phil and his band sounded great to me and doughboy threw out some seemingly bogus claims and derailed the thread big time and stuck by his claims which was pretty lame but I've got to say as many crazy posts that Electric Voodoo post around here I actually thought his original post was pretty funny, you do know Paul Rubens is Pee Wee Herman right? Funny stuff in a derailed sometimes turned shitstorm thread

Below is Electric Voodoo's original post, I did not think anyone would take it serious...I sure didn't he is obviously trying to inject a little humor   Also after posting this thread I found a SMOKING GOOD deal thru Musicians Friend on an Open Box new Phil X amp and saved a bundle, its a killer amp, the best Friedman I've owned or played yet for my tastes.

congrats on your new amp! would love to hear a clip of that through your les paul... post a simple Iphone clip, no miking or effects...

No big deal, I think it was doughboy that derailed the thread with his crazy claims, yes it is different for sure with more kerrang (which is kind of missing from my early old style BE) and high mids if dialed in that way. I'm living in the lowest gain setting on the 3 way. The highest gain setting is way over the top for what I do with much more thump and low end as well for guys that like that thing. Covers a lot for a one channel amp and I don't need a clean usually anyway. It cleans up exceptionally well on the guitar volume knob in the lowest gain position as well, better than the BE or Smallbox I've had and retains more high end chime when doing so. Just an exceptional amp!

Thank you sjk. You seem to be the only one who realized I was being silly about it.

Of course your clip sounds killer as well as Friedman's products. One of his reps or whoever they are, actually chimed in to tell me that egnator doesnt build their amps.

Never meant to derail your thread btw, After reading the back and forth between Friedman and the doughboy guy or whoever he is, i felt compelled by the power of christ to chime in.

No problem, Comedy Gold! Paul Rubens co designed Friedman Phil X lmao.
That clip I posted sounded good and pushed me into getting this thing. I like it and will post my own clip soon.

I figured some stupid humor was better than arguing about it. :dunno:

I like the AFD tone alright but it's nothing I ever really try for but I think this amp could pull it off fairly convincing but not spot on (not many amps do I reckon), I'm usually shooting for ACDC, Led Zep, and EVH tone and it does that pretty good, for me it hits ALL those tones much better than my early BE. What this amp can do better than most modern amps with lots of gain I've owned or tried is the mid-gain stuff, I've found most modern amps fall short of this for what I wanna hear.

i think the saturation is a little different than the AFD type tone...its also not as compressed or middy as that tone.

the X is a lot more 'clear' in its gain and its a very direct, punchy type of tone and feel...thats not how i generally think about AFD-based tone.

i actually thought the SS-100 (with he bass down and the treble and presence up) did a really greasy AfD sort of vibe

Much more punchy, way less compressed, much more open, and percussive than the BE or Smallbox as well...which are the only other Friedmans I've played.

I just listened to this clip on my computer through a high definition speakers system. The tone/sound is marginal at best. Sounds very sterile. I'll reserve final judgment when playing the amp in person.

Disclaimer, like you say Dave the final judgment is always after playing them in person.

Not enough gain? For a rough Youtube clip thru my cheap laptop speakers I thought it sounded pretty good so I posted it, had a nice mid gain growl. You tube is not always the greatest as we all know and if you look where he has the master set it is barely on, very very low volume I'd guess judging by where he has the volume set and that is doing him no favors. Unlike the BE channel of the BE which sounds pretty dang good at lowish volumes with all it's gain this amp does not shine in the low gain setting of the 3 settings until you turn it up some. Not really awhole lot of gain in this setting. That's the setting I like best and I don't have much for volume restrictions so I'm usually playing it w/volume between 8:30 and 9:00 oclock which is pretty loud and sometime's even higher. It needs some volume for sure but you would not need to go as high as I'm running it, now if you go to the highest gain setting it sounds a little better down low but I have just briefly touched that setting.

Hope this isn't true, but I heard from a very good source that Friedman is having issues with Phil X & may be discontinuing the amp & possibly re-introducing it with a different name.

REALLY??? Please share the details from this "reliable" source. Because this is news to Dave and I .

Sorry, this is what I heard from a reliable source, as I said, hoped it wasn't true. We'll see what happens in the future.

Btw, this is the same source that told me Egnator was building your amps before you came out with the news much later.

it cant be "reliable" when both your statements are incorrect

all is good

If you say so. I do know that your amps were built by Egnator. They're not anymore, but they used to be & that's a 100% fact.

As for the friction between Phil X & Friedman, I hope it's not true, but apparently Phil is acting like somewhat of a Diva now a days, not showing up for photo shoots acting 'not so nice' etc

its not "100% fact" when your 100% wrong

Ok, I guess we agree to disagree, but I'm 10000000% sure Egnator used to build Friedmans.

Either way, I love Friedman Dirty Shirley & can't wait for the BE pedal to come out.
Dude, you're arguing information from a "reputable source" against information from the actual source. You really can't win this one. Plus, you keep spelling "Egnater" incorrectly. :D

Dude!!! This isn't a contest. I'm not trying to win anything. I'm telling you what I heard & this person is incredibly reliable & has no reason to make up anything or lie. If Rob wants to deny that his amps were made by egnatEr & that there is no issues with Phil X, then great. Sounds good to me.

really what you are doing is continually presenting something as fact that those directly involved have refuted - several times.

maybe if you arent willing to put up you should just shut up...with all due respect to you and your ultra-reliable, super-duper, top-secret source

Whatever DUDE. This is the same source that told me long before it was made public that Friedman amps were being built by Egnater. Rob 100% refuted that in his post yesterday & then Dave said actually they're made by a company that owns/affilaited Egnater. Isn't that the pretty much same thing? Didn't Rob just say it wasn't true?

Is my source wrong? Maybe. Can Friedman be in damage control mode. Maybe. At this point, just let it be. It's pointless.

Alright here it is, way too short, way too much delay lol, and just wanking away. This is with the gain cranked in the lowest gain setting. It's got way more if you want it. The splawn 4x12 straight cab is already kind of a dark warm cab with most any speakers I've had in it and it's loaded with 4 Scumback 25 watt M75's which are a little dark. I think I could use something a little brighter in there like some RI greenbacks or even some EVH greenbacks. I've got 4 of each of em so I will probably do some swapping this week or even look for a different cab to put them in.

Chassis is out of the headshell why I try out several quads of Power Tubes. Came with ARS labeled JJ EL34's which sound fine but in this clip it's got Winged C's which sound a little different, maybe brighter if that's possible?

That sounds GREAT man. I really Ike that. Much better than the original vid posted.
Cool.
