I've been GAS'ing bad for a Bray and found a Deluxe 100 on eBay last week. Price was the same as the Suhr PT100 and SL-68 I was also GAS'ing for. I saw it was from Portland, OR, so I looked for it there on the local CL and found it. I emailed the seller to make an offer and save them the eBay fees. It's a woman selling it for her husband, but she wanted to let the eBay auction ride. I was gonna snipe it, but then she pulled it down. I figured it was gonna be a local sale, so I continued the search and found a Bray-modded Marshall 1987XL that looked like it really fit the bill and for a lot less $$. Today the lady with the Bray Deluxe 100 emailed me and said she pulled it down from eBay for me, but just didn't email me for a few days. Now I have this Marshall coming, which I'm sure will be killer. So, if anyone is looking for a very clean Bray, go on the Portland, OR Craigslist.

Well she fucked up didn't she...?   of course you could always try to beat her down on her price explaining you've already bought one since she "waited a few days" before hitting you up. A/B the two then flip the one you love the least. I realize that's quite the capital outlay however.

I'm interested in hearing some Marsall Bray clips when that baby lands.

Yes, I'm still considering grabbing the Bray and flipping whichever one blows me away less. But then I kinda think a 4550 might fit the bill even more than Deluxe 100. And I really want the loop in the 1987XL, which the Brays don't have. I had a loop put in my 1959SLP and gigged with it for the first time last night. It sounded amazing and the effects were very robust. I'm trying to sell the guitar in my signature before I front more cash for an A/B amp experiment (again). Did with a 5150 III and Stealth last summer and it took me forever to sell that non-Stealth, though I did make $100 on it.

I had a Bray modded jcm800 for a while. It was a very VH sounding amp. Sounded great.

What has Bray done to the Marhsall in the top pic ? Is that a Master Vol on the far left ?
Edit - I counted 1 too many knobs on the front

Mod I
vintage/hot
channel 2 dual-sound
Master Volume

I had my eye on that $1,700 Bray modded Marshall - but a little to high for me. Best options though! I had one just like it that I regret selling!

My less-modded 100w Plexi sounded so amazing at Friday night's gig, I really wonder how this Bray-modded one will beat it. But I'm willing to give it a try.

I think there's another Bray-modded 1987x on eBay now for under $1600, but it doesn't have a loop and I really wanted the loop version.

Except for the insane movement of the indicator and sticking a master volume where that went!?

Yeah, that looks a little weird. I was thinking about that, because I wondered how hard it is to adjust the MV on the back panel in a gig situation. It was very dark by my amp at my gig this past weekend. My MV is in the lower right input hole, so it's easy to see and reach. But I didn't touch it once after the initial line check.

I had Dave mod my 1987x back in 07. I ended up selling it later that year.. just another piece of equipment that I regret.
I used a THD 16ohm hot plate for playing it at home.

Imo, he did a great job, very very nice guy to deal with. I even wrote him a letter and he put it on his page. Was up there for years until he redid his site.

It was so much more usable at home vs what it was before. It is a really loud amp and from memory, the vol jump from 1-2 was a big change.
I even pulled a cap off the board with gave it more of a usable vol swell.. ( pre bray mod in its stock form,) then sent it to Dave and he did his magic on it.

Great guy and good quality work. Can't say enough about him.

That sure seems like a lot for a mod that doesn't even add a tube. Not that adding a tube socket is probably much to do when you have the right tools. I'd stick with a stock one and pedals. I like functional mods like Master's, loops and switchable masters but every gain modded amp I've had succumbed to stock variants using pedals.

Every clip I've heard of a Bray sounds so early VH, centric I couldn't imagine it being more than a novelty for me.

I think dialing back the gain on a Bray can get good AC/DC tones too. But we'll see when i get her.

I love that early VH tone but I can`t play like that so I really don`t have GAS for a Bray but damn the clips I`ve heard man with the right player the Bray just slays. With that said I don`t think I`ve come across clips of it doing anything other than VH type stuff

I really don't need a 100 watt amp! If that Bray was a 50 watt, maybe.

My buddy had one & it sounded awesome. Good to see they're still making the rounds.
