got a demo of the new Mesa Tc-50 today

I also tried a TC-50 today and got to AB it with the JP2C, and thought the JP2C absolutely destroyed it! Sounded way bigger, tighter, more articulate (even without the shred engaged), and aggressive. I also don't get why Mesa says it's the highest gain amp they've ever made. The mark iii's and iic++'s have way way more gain and saturation and I remember the mark v having at least as much gain also on the mark iv mode

I liked the JP better too

I just picked up a TC-50 and I think it's a pretty killer amp. 3 independent channels that all sound great with midi control and the same size as the 5150 III 50 watt? I really wanted to like the EVH due to size/weight/midi but it wasn't for me. I think the TC is a little more of a classic rock/hard rock amp than extreme metal, maybe that's why some guys don't like it. I think it sounds great and love the size/weight and features. It will probably replace my Mark IV.

Congratulations.... I thought it was pretty different than the other Mesa amps I have used. One of the best Master volumes on any amp.

I've been using one since sometime around October or November. I like it a lot. IMO, the three channels really nails the clean/crunch/lead transition in a way that other Mesa's have never quite nailed. That said, I also like that I can just sit on the blue channel and ride the volume knob the entire night too.

IMO, if you're used to Mesa's the EQ takes a bit of getting used to. The first time I demo'd one I dialled it in like a typical Mesa and was really unimpressed. Basically... you can dime the bass knob on this amp and still produce good sounds, which I think throws a lot of people off, including myself for awhile.

I agree that compared to amps like the Mark or the Recto the TC-50 doesn't have a lot of individual character. IMO, it has a lot of great sounds but doesn't really stand out on it's own the way those amps do. I agree with whoever called it a chameleon amp. I like that with the TC-50 I'm not really pigeonholed into a particular sound or style and I can access different decades/eras of tone with it quickly and convincingly.

Recently, I yanked the V30s out of my Recto 2x12 and tossed in a set of Greenbacks (G12M-25). IMO, Greenbacks do a lot to alleviate the "flatness" of the amp and gives it a lot more character, particularly in the high end/harmonic region that V30s tend to roll off. They also better complement the vintage vibe of the amp and make it sound more authentic in the process.
