Holy balls!

All I can say is Splawn Quick Rod, Gear 1, gain at 10:00 with this thing is rock and roll heaven. Got about 20 minutes of play time. It really takes a tone I was very satisfied with and just makes it sound very "up front" if that makes sense. This literally does what I was hoping for in that it adds so e extra ferocity to my dialed in tone.

Have the pedal set at:
Gain: 9:00
Tone: Noon
Level: 3:00

I'll get something recorded tonight or tomorrow for sure. Late for work!!!

That is awesome to hear.

Congrats.

As far as coloration of the tone, how would you say it compares to the Maxon 808?

I want one! The regular OD808 is great, if this is even better...well then

The od808x has a little more low, a lot more highs and less mid honk than the od808.

On top of this the X has more output and seems a bit clearer overall. The X has replaced the original in my chain. Don't think I will get rid of the original but every time I a/b them I prefer the X. Note that I have to turn the tone knob on the X almost all the way off as there is that much range. I ran the original about a quarter from max, the X is set at only a quarter on.

How does it compare to the vfe ice cream u just got?

Funny you should ask!!!

So, here are the pedals …

Maxon OD808X:

VFE Ice Scream "Mint":

The rig used:

This is on Gear 1, gain at 10:00 on the amp. VERY minimal gain on each pedal.

Teh Clip:

I used a little Hall reverb from the Eventide H9 in the amps loop. The Mammoth has a Duncan JB in the bridge. The riff is Mercyful Fate's "Curse of the Pharaoh".

Not the best comparison but you can definitely hear the difference between the pedals. I gotta find my Zoom Q3.

Overall, I think the VFE takes the basic tone and makes it a bit less boomy and bigger but still sounds like what was inherently dialed in. The Maxon is more aggressive. Both are more noticeable in the room. I can't believe I am going to say this but I think BOTH are keepers. On Gear 2 it just gets brutal!

Fire away.

This was new on eBay for $140 with free shipping obo. I offered $115 and the seller accepted. Bought on Sunday and got here Wednesday. Score for me!!!

Great deal! I don;t see any OBO at the moment. I will stalk....

Told you the Maxon would deliver! If the X has more bass than the OD808 sounds like they just kind of lessened the extreme mid spike frequencies. I really liked my Maxon 808 when I had it until the SRB displaced it otherwise I would still have it.

More Low end, less mids, and more highs! Sounds perfect. I always liked the original od808 but this one sounds like an improvement.

Good test.
Definitely the maxon replaces the highs where the creambacks have rolled off.

Ice cream is more mids and less lows. Maxon seems more flat and clear. Two good pedals it seems. just different flavors.

I sell these pedals. I have no idea why a seller would accept $115 for one. With Ebay fees and Paypal fees that guy lost money. And not just a penny or two. Some desperate sellers out there apparently.

Thanks for checking it out. I agree with your assessment. I thought that the Maxon might make me want to sell off the VFE. I tweaked the VFE a little and now have two sounds I think would really complement each other for recording. They will both get Dual Lock'd tonight!

Interesting. I would think at $140 they'd not be making much. Glad I hopped on it when I did.
