Graham Bonnet belting it out at 77

Hmmm....I mixed him a few years back.
Two channels on the mixer are tracks, backing AND lead vocals.
He was aight for about two tunes at soundcheck and blew his voice out.

Rest of the eve was either outta tune lowered vox behind the tracks or miming.

And the local gden ears who hear the grass grow came all over themself cause of his killer performance. Not an inkling it was canned.

Fast forward, Gary Shae (old pal of mine who was the bassist in Alcatrazz) got into it with him online about precise that.
Bonnet insisted he never used tracks, and got really quiet when I joined the discussion.

I know a lot of people love Graham Bonnett's voice. I have never been a fan. When he sings in his higher register he always sounds like he is straining to hit those notes. I don't mean just the high notes, I mean that whole upper register.
i’d rather listen to walruses mating 2 feet away through one of these

+1!

So I really don't get the 'he has the same range as Halford' comment...

I'm like, does he now? Really? With the same power, finesse, etc.? 🤨
And look, I'm not here to compare apples to oranges, but Bonnet in his *prime* sounded strained typically in his higher register, yet, Halford in his prime...oofff.... probably made some unsuspecting dogs and bats jizz unvoluntarily. 🐶🦇
I mean...come on, I don't see Bonnet pull something off like this:

i think having to endure this for hours

in order to learn yngwie licks off the alcatrazz albums permanently traumatized me

i cannot see any comparison to the legendary pipes of halford whatsoever

back to guitars!
