Grand Puppy

My daughter had to euthanize her 10-year old Great Pyrenees today. Devastating. She has 3 daughters that have known Huxley since day one. He wasn’t feeling well Tuesday. Vet visit found an abdominal mass. They were looking for options and had an ultrasound scheduled, but he went downhill, quick.

Today, the vet went to the house, started an IV, and gave Hux something to relax. The family had time to give treats and say goodbye. They pickup his ashes on Monday. Animals are family. Losing them hurts

Thanks… I know, he was an animal. Only slightly less important than humans in my book. Plus, I suck at loss. So, so many at this point (long story). The hole this will leave with the granddaughters wears on me. The process and timing worked out, but, damn

They'll learn sooner or later that the 1/7th lifespan of dogs is an unfortunate downside to lovin' 'em.

I've got stories too but I try not to think of 'em. Worst was losin' my best buddy Brutus, the Boxer I grew up with in South Africa, to being given-away by my old man just prior to the move to Oz. Suddenly he was gone and I didn't even get to say goodbye to him. For 20 years I wondered whether or not he was still-alive. Ate away at me, that did.

I remember 15 years after I got here I was walking on the bike track one day and suddenly couldn't help crying. I had the strong feeling that Brutus had just died.
