steve howe- too fucking trebley and screechy on all of those incredible early yes lps
yngwie-too much treble on that first lp and the drums also sound paper thin
marching out sounded 10 times fuller and richer
dimebag-it worked well for him but NOT the 10,000 solid state clones he spawned
petrucci-totally generic sounding and just unmemorable/uninspiring
i'll get clobbered for this one but -randy rhoads- rhythm tone always sounded weird to me
hollow but distinct-never really heard anything like that before or since-i realize he triple tracked his stuff and that is "his tone" but that tone is just weird to my ears-lots of mids/ams processing,big british desk etc …it's unique and I know many dudes hate max norman's work
i am not dissing their respective skills nor is this a hate thread, just my not so humble opinions[or in other words -shit talkin']
