The them vs today league arguments are ridiculous considering that if Gretzky were to have grown up with the training the kids receive today, he'd be just as dominant as he was in the 80's... now that said would he have tallied the same amount of points/records that he did in the 80's? Absolutely no way.. but he'd def be a force and as dominant as Crosby is. The largest difference between the 80's game and today's game is clearly the goaltending. Gretzky scored some pretty horrible beer league esque goals on goalies who wore smaller pads and hadn't switched to the butterfly style yet.. Jordan played against a net. The net hasn't changed.... The answer is still clearly Gretzky but to suggest Jordan in his prime couldn't hang with the guys that are out there today is pretty ridiculous. There is a reason why players today still hold those guys in high esteem. People always forget that Gretzky had a killer accurate shot and and that Jordan had crazy air time. Put them in today's game and they still have their vision and physical abilities.

Jordan was great and totally clutch, but a better comparison to Gretzky is Wilt.
Wilt dominated as an athletic 7 footer and literally changed the game- the league imposed dozens of rules to stop Wilt. He used to to tale his free throws by running to the line and flying for a dunk. Same with inbounds passing; he would inbound by leaping and dunking.
Gretzky took all the records and practically DOUBLED them. That is by far my favorite era of hockey. 92 goals, 200+ points in a season! Unreal.
